Join us on an excursion to the Brunello Kingdom to tour top wineries and taste some of the region’s finest wines. You’ll have the opportunity to savor the sights of the hilltop village of Montalcino and the vineyards of Sangiovese.
What to Expect
On this wine tour you’ll visit Montalcino, a tiny Tuscan hill town south of Siena, where one of Italy's most prized wines is produced. Brunello, the region’s rich red wine, is made from Italian Sangiovese grape in a French-style process that creates an exquisite wine comparable to Barollo. It is known as the “king” of all Tuscan wines.
The castle and village of Montalcino sit atop the area’s highest hill, and the road winds through the Sangiovese grosso vineyards. The picturesque village, around 120 km south of Florence, features a church and bell tower, and the Abbey of Sant'Antimo is nearby. The village boasts lots of wine bars, restaurants featuring local specialties, and dozens of vineyards within easy reach.
This full-day guided tour takes in visits to two important wineries, where you’ll be given tours and have the opportunity to taste their wines. We depart Florence at 09:00 and make our first stop at the Altesino winery for a tour and tasting. Afterwards, you’ll explore the Montalcino historical center with your guide and enjoy lunch at Grappolo Blu.
Our final stops of the day will be visits to the San Antimo Abbey and the Poggio Antico winery – where you’ll be given a tour and the chance to taste their wines.
