Taking a pilgrimage to Fátima is an event of a lifetime. Here, in 1917, 3 children were blessed with the apparition of the Virgin Mary, and today you can visit this astonishing Basilica built in her honor. During your tour, your guide will help point out the most important points of interest. The newest church in this complex, the Most Holy Trinity (2007) is one of the largest Christian churches in the world, and well worth the time to visit. You will also have the chance to spend time in other holy sites of the region, including Nazaré. Here you can relax a bit with its beautiful beaches and lovely cuisine. After a stop for lunch, head to Batalha monastery (Entrance included), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These monuments are incredibly well preserved, given their nearly 600 years of life. Begin your tour by meeting your friendly guide for the morning pick-up at your hotel or previously designated location. Head first to Fátima, approximately one hour away from Lisbon. The religious capital of Portugal became famous after sightings of the Virgin Mary appeared here. After being picked up from your accommodation in Sesimbra, you will head to Fatima, where you will enjoy one of the most important places of Christianity around the world. Once in Fatima, you will visit the sacred sanctuary, the memory chapel, and the Basilica of the Holy Trinity which in 2009 received the outstanding structure award by the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering. You will also visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Rosary, which was built at the site of the Marian apparitions which were reported by three Portuguese children in 1917, and better known as Our Lady of Fátima. Nazaré is composed by a sandy beach where you can listen to the rhythm of the pounding waves. It is also a perfect place for undisturbed walks along the shore, surfing, tanning, and of course, visiting the biggest wave in the world located on the north beach. You will be driven along the beautiful west coast where you can observe the multiple wild beaches of this remote area. The last stop is in the medieval village of Óbidos, famous for cobbled streets and steep staircases which wind up to the ramparts. From here you can gaze across a countryside of windmills and vineyards.

We spent a wonderful day with Tanya, our guide. We had a lot to do in one day, so our time at each stop wasn't very long, but long enough to enjoy the beauty of each place. We particularly enjoyed watching the surfers at Nazare and lunch Paul Caetano. Tanya was an excellent host---both knowledgeable and funny! We highly recommend this tour.

I’m so glad I did this tour! Tanya was an amazing guide. The amount of time in each location was just enough, and all were very worthwhile places to go. I highly recommend going on this tour if you’re in Lisbon and want to travel outside the city.
