Learn about the historic 16th century Aqueduct on this walking and cycling tour in Évora. Led by an experienced guide wander along the colossal arches of the structure and relax in a traditional country house before biking back.
What to Expect
This is a 5-hour walking and bike tour following the Silver Water Aqueduct in Évora. Tour participants meet at Percursos Pedestres on the road to Arraiolos. Transfers to the meeting point can be arranged upon request.

The tour begins by walking along the aqueduct, a marvelous piece of 16th century engineering. It was built in the 1530s by King João III to supply the city with water. With the aqueducts colossal arches stretching over the landscape for 9km, this is a sight not to be missed.

Along the path you will reach a traditional country house where you can stop for a drink before collecting the bikes. The return to Évora is via an eco trail free of traffic and is downhill requiring minimum effort. You will follow the aqueduct inside the ancient city walls and experience Évora’s unique historical centre.

The tour is led by a knowledgeable guidewho will inform you of the history of the aqueduct. The tour is suitable for children as long as they can ride a bike. You will cover approximately 8km walking and 10km cycling.

Know Before You Go
• Transfers to the meeting point can be organized.
• Experienced riders can complete the entire tour by bike. Cycling near the aqueduct is good fun, but you need to love cycling. There are some steps where you have to step down from your bike, and the path is narrow.
• A picnic lunch can be organized and then this would be a full day tour.
