This full-day tour of the mighty Danube is ideal for people who want to combine history with nature and would like to enjoy some of the most beautiful countrysides in Hungary. You will see historic monuments and art memorials while your guide provides a lively narrative of Hungarian life. At Esztergom, the northern gate of Budapest, you will pause at the largest cathedral in the country and see the burial sites of famous cardinals as you gaze across the water towards Slovakia. Cross the river and border into Slovakia to see the stunning view from the opposite side.  You will visit the city Visegrád where you will learn about life in the Middle Ages while enjoying spectacular views of the Danube Valley. Additionally, this is the city where you will be provided with your lunch, a 3-course Hungarian meal. You will stop at the artists' village in Szentendre, a baroque city located where the Danube River meets the Pilis Mountains. Wander the narrow streets to soak up the magical atmosphere and catch panoramic vistas of the river. Browse the shops of the village before the return journey to Budapest. Travel from 15th May until 31st October will be on a relaxing boat cruise, a fitting way to arrive back in the city center. In case of low/high water levels, the return to Budapest will be by bus.

See the Danube Bend and walk along medieval narrow streets. In Visegrád, walk close to the 750-year-old stones of the former Royal Residence (entry fee not included). It is a small baroque city at the gate of the Danube Bend, at the meeting place of the Danube River and the Pilis Mountains, situated in a beautiful natural environment. Walk around the baroque settlement, built on medieval ruins, and go up the narrow streets to a panorama point to look out over the Danube. Enjoy the special atmosphere of this village before the trip concludes.

Journey through Hungary's history, experience a unique section of the River Danube, commonly referred to as the ”Danube Bend”. Start off by seeing the city of Esztergom from another perspective during a photo stop in Slovakia. Then head out in the comfort of an air-conditioned bus and enjoy the remarkable city of Esztergom, home to the largest Catholic church in the country. In addition to experiencing a great view of river valley, you will also have time to enjoy a 3-course lunch in the city of Visegrád. Afterwards, you will continue on to the magical artist’s village of Szentendre, where your guide will show you the downtown area with its cobblestone streets. At the end of the tour, return to Budapest either by boat on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday (from 15th May to 31st October) or by bus on every Wednesday (from 15th May to 31st October). In case of extremely low or high water level on the River Danube, the return to Budapest will be by bus as well.

Start your day with a pickup from your hotel in Budapest. After passing by the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Acquincum, continue to the charming town of Szentendre, a beatifully picturesque, artsy gem with a true Mediterranean touch. Explore the town's narrow streets and colorful houses, including the popular "Umbrella Street". Visit the local shops and galleries, including the famous Szamos Marcipan Manifacture and Museum, where sweet dreams come to life! Here, you'll have a chance to shop from a stunning array of exquisite marzipan creations, while exploring the fascinating museum and marvel at unique exhibits like the jaw-dropping 78-kilogram life-sized marzipan woman. Next, head to Visegrád, a small town with a rich history. Visit the town's medieval castle and enjoy panoramic views of the Danube River (the famous Danube Bend panorama). Between December 26 - January 12, the castle is open every day.) Towering over Esztergom, Hungary, the Esztergom Basilica is a sight to behold. As the largest church in the country, it boasts a grand neoclassical design, a massive dome (one of the biggest in the world) visible for kilometers, and a rich history. Built on the site of earlier churches dating back to King Stephen I, it's the seat of the Catholic Church in Hungary and offers stunning views and a deep connection to Hungarian history. If you are into paintings and art, we can also visit the Esztergom Christian Museum, Hungary's most prestigious church collection, which offers an unparalleled journey through centuries of European and Hungarian art, featuring world famous late medieval masterpieces like Thomas de Coloswar’s Calvary Altar, the Garamszentbenedek Lord's Coffin, and the Passion paintings by “Master MS,” alongside other magnificent works. From Esztergom, we will cross the border to Slovakia (there's no border control, but have some kind of ID on you just in case), take great photos of the Basilica with the Danube from the other side, and return to Budapest through Nagymaros/Verőce/Vác. In Nagymaros, you can have a stunning view of the Visegrád Castle and the Danube Bend - a scenic spot very few tour operators do. In Verőce, we will stop for short while to admire an interesting riverside system of retaining walls, first started based on the plans of famous Hungarian architect Miklós Ybl. It's a unique sight in the Hungarian part of the Danube, and again something very few tour operators do, despite its obvious charm. Finally, in Vác you can admire a real arch of triumph built for Austro-Hungarian emress Maria Theresa herself, as well as the imposing local basilica, before returning to Budapest.

Drive to the handsome city of Esztergom, former capital of Hungary from the 10th to the 13th-Century and situated on the border with Slovakia. Its cathedral, the Esztergom Basilica, is the largest church in Hungary. Continue to Visegrád, a small castle town on the right bank of the Danube. Here you will explore the remains of the Royal Palace and visit the citadel of Visegrád Castle. Take some souvenir photos of the Danube Bend from the castle’s fantastic elevated vantage point. You will enjoy a 3-course lunch in a local restaurant at Visegrád before continuing to the medieval town of Szentendre. Well known for its art scene, you will stroll through the charming streets, lined with contemporary art galleries, craft shops and boutique stores.

I meet you at an agreed time and place. You begin your journey to the formal capital of Hungary towards Esztergom. You will make a short visit in Slovakia for a photo stop. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the magnificent Basilica, visit the most important ecclesiastical burial place, admire the magnificent view, visit the medieval castle and learn about the history of the most important Hungarian rulers. The next stop is Visegrád, where we will climb and explore the castle and its surroundings, built after the Tatar invasion. While visiting the castle’s exhibition, we will gain an insight into the medieval world of the knights. After a wonderful lunch, Szentendre is next, the a former art colony and today a bohemian center with great galleries and outstanding museums. Returning back to your hotel by car in the end of the day.
