The first stop is the town of Rethimno, the third biggest town in Crete west of Heraklion on the north coast of Crete. Here, archeological monuments of the Ottoman and Venetian eras co-exist. Around 10:00 AM, you’ll board a boat for a short trip to Kolokytha Bay, a perfect spot for a refreshing swim in the clear, inviting waters. While there, you can also enjoy a tasty lunch on board. At about 12:45 PM, the boat will take you across the stunning Mirabello Bay to Spinalonga. Once on the island, a professional tour guide will lead you through its fascinating history. Learn about Spinalonga’s past as a natural barrier for the ancient Greek city of Olous, a refuge for Saracen pirates, a Venetian fortress, and a Turkish settlement. Enjoy a walking tour of the island of Spinalonga during a full-day excursion from Elounda to the island. Depart from Heraklion in a spacious, comfortable bus and be carried to the designated locations along the coast through the St. George Gorge to Elounda, a tranquil coastal resort. Board the bus to visit the bay and the beach of Kolokytha at around 10:30 a secluded haven that offers a respite from daily life. Swim and eat a delicious BBQ on board. Take the boat around 12:45 to Spinalonga, across Mirabello Bay. Learn more about Spinalonga's long and complex history as a natural barrier for Olous in Ancient Greek times, a Saracen pirate refuge, a Venetian fortification, and a Turkic settlement at 2:45 pm. Head towards our last destination from Elounda by bus, and take the opportunity for a quick olive oil tasting, before arriving at the capital town of Lassithi, Agios Nikolaos at around 3:45 pm. Relax in a café next to the bottomless Lake of Voulismeni and enjoy your walk to the local shops and board the bus to return to Heraklion at approximately 6:30.

Start your tour with pick up in an air-conditioned Land Rover from your accommodations (Hotel or Villas) and head into the Dikti Mountain Range. You'll pass through several traditional and very picturesque mountain villages. There will be plenty of opportunities to stop for photos or to have a coffee at a real taverna. At the Lassithi Plateau, you might see eagles and vultures, as both nest around this area. Next, you’ll reach the base of Mount Spathi. We will visit a local pottery where you can try to form from fresh clay something beautiful, supervised by a local specialist. After you have the opportunity to learn about greek history and myths at the Mythology park. Next, enjoy a traditional Cretan meze lunch with local wine. After lunch, you'll continue around the plateau and then descend taking in views of the north coast and the impressive Aposelemis Dam. You will then visit a 2400-year-old plane tree, the oldest on the island, as well as the Selinari Monastery.

Take a tour to Richtis beach on the far side of Mirabello Bay and trek through the forest to the stunning Richtis waterfall. After pickup from your accommodation, enjoy the beautiful scenery on the 1-hour drive to the bay of Mirabello. Leave the asphalt and travel off road down to Richtis beach, hugging the mountainside.  Park at the bottom and enter Richtis gorge to start the 30-minute walk to reach the falls. Follow a trail through the forest, listening to the sounds of birds and running water. Stop to admire the incredible waterfalls, with time to climb up the stairs to the top of the falls, take photos, or swim in the cool waters.  When you are ready to leave, head back to the beach along the same trail. During the tour you’ll enjoy a traditional lunch at a local tavern, with wine and water included. At the end of your tour, you’ll be dropped off back at your hotel in the Elounda area.

What about a daily fishing tour combined with swimming in crystal clear blue sea? Starting off at the renowned fishing village of Elounda, you will board a small boat and when you are out in the open sea a local fisherman will show you various fishing techniques and will help you catch your fish. Enjoy your time by fishing with rod. Then it is time to swim and do snorkeling in the clear crystal sea of Elounda bay and enjoy the serenity of the place. The tour ends with a delicious meal onboard, including the fishes that you have catched, during our return to the port. Spend about 90 minutes exploring the island and learning about its fascinating past. After your self-guided tour of Spinalonga, return to Plaka.
