Day 1: Welcome to Iceland Individual transfer to your accommodation in Reykjavik. Day 2: Travel to Akureyri We drive north through the Hvalfjördur tunnel to Borgarnes, then to Skagafjördur, known for its Icelandic horses. We'll visit Glaumbær, a traditional turf farm, before continuing over the Öxnadalsheidi plateau to Akureyri, the capital of North Iceland. Optional bathing at Forest Lagoon after arrival in Akureyri (at extra price). Day 3: Lake Mývatn Today, we explore the stunning area around Lake Mývatn, known for its active volcanism and rich biological activity. Our stops include Goðafoss, the "Waterfall of the Gods," the volcanic formations at Dimmuborgir, and the pseudocraters at Skútustaðagígar. We'll visit Grjótagjá, a lava cave with a thermal spring, and the geothermal area at Námaskarð with its bubbling mud pools. On our way to Egilsstaðir, we'll see Dettifoss, Europe's second most powerful waterfall, before reaching Egilsstaðir. Day 4: East Fjords From Egilsstaðir, we drive through the Eastfjords to Höfn í Hornafirði, passing narrow fjords with steep cliffs and charming fishing villages. Despite its stunning scenery, sparkling lakes, and traditional farms, this area is often overlooked. Known for its sunny summers and mystical winter fog, it's the only region in Iceland where wild reindeer roam freely, remnants of a failed farming experiment. Day 5: Glacier Lagoon & South Coast We leave Höfn and drive along Iceland's southeast coast, stopping first at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon for an amphibian boat tour. Below the Lagoon, ice shards wash up on Breiðamerkursandur, known as Diamond Beach. Continuing through Vatnajökull National Park, we visit Skaftafell, a green oasis at the foot of the Öræfajökull glacier. We then pass the lava fields of Eldhraun, the Mýrdalssandur outwash plain, and visit Reynisfjara's black sand beach. Finally, we stop at the waterfalls Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss, where you can walk behind the cascade. Day 6: Golden Circle Today, we tour the renowned Golden Circle, starting with the majestic Gullfoss Waterfall. Next, we visit the Geysir hot spring area, where Strokkur erupts every few minutes. We then explore Þingvellir National Park, where the North American and European tectonic plates meet, and where the ancient Icelandic parliament, Alþingi, was established in 930.
