What to Expect
Join the thousands that have discovered the rich splendor of the Queen’s Gallery at the Palace of Holyroodhouse since it was opened by Her Majesty The Queen on 29 November 2002 as part of her Golden Jubilee celebrations. Part of the Palace of Holyroodhouse complex, the art gallery hosts an ever-changing roster of exhibitions.

Depending on the date of your visit, marvel at more than 60 items from the Royal Collection, dating from the early Bronze Age to the 20th century at “Gold.” Explore the rich qualities that make this rare and precious metal an enduring expression of the highest status, earthly and divine.

Get a glimpse into the myriad uses of gold, from the sacred to the ornamental. Watch a series of film installations that show the meticulous working of gold by a bookbinder, furniture gilder, and jewelry maker. "Gold" runs from Friday 27 March 2015 to Sunday 26 July 2015.

See the 1st ever exhibition devoted to Scottish art in the Royal Collection at "Scottish Artists 1750 - 1900: From Caledonia to the Continent” (Friday 6 August 2015 to Sunday 7 February 2016). Marvel at paintings, drawings and miniatures that date from George III to Queen Victoria. Admire the work of painters who were born in Scotland but traveled abroad, such as Allan Ramsay and Sir David Wilkie.

Discover how Scotland inspired native artists such as Alexander Nasmyth and James Giles. The exhibition pays particular attention to the importance and influence of artists whose work was shaped by the ideas of the Scottish Enlightenment.
