  • Visit the picturesque and typically Scottish township of Inveraray
  • See stunning lochs like Awe and Fyne
  • Explore the ruins of Inveraray Castle
  • Travel the "Rest and Be Thankful" route
Full description

From Edinburgh, travel west, passing the historic and imposing Stirling Castle, high on its volcanic rock, and on to a visit at the magnificent Doune Castle (which featured in the cult movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail"). From there, drive into the Highlands, past the lovely Loch Lubnaig and up through impressive Glen Ogle, stopping nearby for lunch and beautiful views of the surrounding scenery.

After lunch, drive further into the Highlands, stopping to view one of the most photographed castles in Scotland, Kilchurn Castle, jutting into beautiful Loch Awe and stunningly framed by the surrounding mountains.

Then it’s on to Inveraray, a quaint small town built in the mid-18th century, on the shore of Loch Fyne. Explore the town and pick up some Highland souvenirs, or pay an optional visit to Inveraray Castle (April to October only), the historic home of the Duke of Argyll, chief of the Clan Campbell, which is set in large beautiful gardens overlooking Loch Fyne. Now start your homeward journey, driving over the Arrochar Alps, an attractive range of mountains, with a brief pause near the top of the "Rest and Be Thankful Pass." A little later, reach enchanting Loch Lomond, where you'll stop at the pretty lochside village of Luss before returning to Edinburgh. *Inveraray Castle open Apr-Oct, alternatives offered Nov-March

A brief glimpse into the Highlands, passing some lovely lochs and castles. Pitty we couldn't visit the Duke of Argylle' castle - but Stirling castle was lovely too. The journey is quite long, one could easily add another hour ore two in order to have a bit more time at the stops at leisure. Lovely guide though, telling stories about Scotland's history, sampling Scottish songs and more modern music which entwined the old tales of some infamous and famous Scots. All in all, a very beautiful and interesting tour.

The experience was great. We have been to Stirling Castle, The Highlands, Inveraray and had a side trip at The Highland cow and other places. Though, the driver/tour guide only gave us very limited time each stop to take photos but still worthy for a 5 star for being knowledgeable, appreciable and very professional. He gave background stories and facts about almost early places that we passed by while driving the wheels. very versatile. Great job Gary!

This one day tour gives you a picture on Lochs and hills. two castles were included - the first one Doune castle was not very interesting, would suggest to change this part of the day tour. As far as I see the other tour office runs smaller buses with wifi, if I would go again, would vote for that tour.
