Our tour guide Angus was fantastic very interesting with his story telling and brought a good sense of humour to the tour and also took the time to get to know the group during the tour so I would definitely recommend booking the Edinburgh castle tour with this company and if you get Angus you will have a great time.

This trip started below the castle, we walked up to the castle and didn’t feel there was enough information during this walk to warrant the starting point. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and tried to keep it light and humorous but the narration at the castle was lengthy and heavy on the history side. We moved from spot to spot outside the castle and listened to detailed explanations. One area had a bench nearby which would have been a better stopping place for the elderly. Keeping the tour more general with facts and trivia appealing to a wider audience, then leaving the last hour optional for the history buffs may be more appealing. Luckily there were no children, though my 27 year old niece has the attention span of a child so we left the tour early. I enjoyed it but I didn’t see the value of the tour and there wasn’t a line to get in so we paid for Skip-the-line for nothing.

Our guide Melanie Boyd was OUTSTANDING! It’s only after the tour that it’s all really sinking in - she absolutely made it! She was incredibly knowledgeable with so much historical information explained in a really entertaining enthusiastic way. It’s clear she’s incredibly passionate about Edinburgh (& History!) I took the tour with two teenage kids (14 &16) and they loved every second (the time flew by). I’d definitely recommend this to anyone interested in history, castles (or Edinburgh in general) and we learned so much.
