Enjoy an exciting tour to the giant castle nature reserve where you will admire bushman paintings. Stop at Midlands Meander on the way back and enjoy a variety of products grown by local farmers.
What to Expect
The tour leaves from Durban and passes through Pietermaritzburg, the capital of KwaZulu-Natal, where you will see the biggest hall of KwaZulu-Natal and the statue of M.K Kandhi. Afterwards you will arrive at the giant castle nature reserve, a UNESCO Wold Heritage side.
Here you have either the choice of embarking on a 40 minutes walk to the main carves that exhibit San rock art or to go on 90 minutes walk to Kamberg. The bushman paintings found in Kamberg, situated on the foothills of the Drakensberg mountains, are plentiful. This site houses a greater volume of paintings which include some of the best preserved paintings in South Africa. Reaching this side is slightly more strenuous than the Gint castle side and requires a 90 minutes walk to get there and another 90 minutes walk to return to the starting point.
The tour ends with a drive through the Midlands Meander where you will be able to enjoy and purchase a variety of products grown by local farmers. On your way back to your hotel, you will stop at the Mandela capture side monument and the Howick falls.
