What to Expect
A pleasant ride to the ancient town of Ston in a luxury vehicle is a pleasant escape from the busy city of Dubrovnik. Located on the Peljesac Peninsula, this historical town is famous for several reasons and thus a popular destination for private tours.  First, its ancient walls dating back to the 14th century are the second longest walls in Europe and stretch over 5 kilometers around town. Second, it is also home to a 2,000 year-old salt pans, which are still used in production today. Lastly, it has some of the most delicious oysters around.

The tour departs from Dubrovnik and begins by visiting several old churches and exploring the town's magnificant architecture, prior to climbing a section of the Walls of Ston open for visitors. With over 20 towers that continue to dominate the hill above Ston today, they represent an impressive review of this town's past. Ston was, in fact, among the first areas in Europe built according to a town planning project. After visiting the walls and making a short stop to view the salt pans, the journey continues with Ston's oyster farms. Due to a unique ecological balance, the Gulf of Ston is home to a variety of oysters that have died out elsewhere in the world. Fortunately, there are delicious local restaurants where this delicacy can be enjoyed, along with many other Dalmatian specialties.

Following lunch, the tour continues to the village of Trsteno, home to some of the oldest examples of medieval garden architecture in Croatia. Acknowledged as one of the finest gardens in Europe with over 300 exotic trees and plants, the arboretum is over 500 years-old and was even used for filming the famous HBO series, Game of Thrones. Here, there will be an opportunity to enjoy the magnificent scenery, including the manor, pavilion, aqueduct, Baroque fountain and 60 meter tall plane trees, before returning to Dubrovnik where the tour ends.
