5 attractions no Dublin day trip would be complete without

We'd recommend doublin' your time in the Irish capital, but if you really do have just a day to spend here, you'll have some great craic (pronounced: crack) working a day tour around these five Dublin faves!

  • Christ Church Cathedral

    1. Christ Church Cathedral

St. Patrick's is also worth touring, but if your excursion coincides, don't miss medieval Christ Church's choral evensongs on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and weekends.

  • Phoenix Park

    2. Phoenix Park

Europe's largest walled city park is home to Áras an Uachtaráin–home to the Irish president. You can also enjoy a wander around the People's Gardens and the old Magazine Fort.

  • Dublin Castle

    3. Dublin Castle

This unusual castle off Dame Street is worth visiting for many reasons, not least because its garden was once home to the Dubh Linn (dark pool) that gave the city its name!

  • Kilmainham Gaol

    4. Kilmainham Gaol

Kilmainham is the place to visit if you want to learn about Ireland's struggle for independence. Now a museum, many significant revolutionaries were imprisoned and executed here.

  • Dublin Writers Museum

    5. Dublin Writers Museum

In a city of exemplary museums, you might only have time for a quick one. Why not immerse yourself in its great literary reputation by learning more about Joyce and Yeats, et al?

Planning Your Visit

  • How to get to the city center from Dublin cruise port?

The cruise port is just over a mile from the city center, and there is an express bus service that should only take about 15 minutes. Visitors can also take the number 53 public bus, pick up a cab at the taxi rank, or even take a hop on hop off bus directly from the terminal for an easy jaunt around the sights and then back again!

  • How to get around Dublin?

Dublin's public transport system can be pretty tricky for newcomers to grasp. Fortunately, most areas of interest can be reached pretty quickly by foot. If you really plan on cramming a lot in (and can afford it!) then you'll have no problem hailing a cab. Be aware, though: as well as the initial fare, an extra euro will be added on per passenger.

I am writing this review for GetYourGuide and Tripadvisor. I enjoyed this trip on August 21th. My guide for the day was Peter and the driver was Dave. I felt very lucky to meet Peter again, since he had been my guide in a previous tour. Both were excellent professionals - Peter was as serious and knowledgeable when talking about the places' history as he was funny and friendly, and Dave showed great skill when driving safely through very narrow mountain roads. The Cliffs of Moher were astonishing. No picture or description will ever make justice - it's one of the most beautiful places I have seen. I wish we would have had more time to explore both. It's a long way to the edge and the visitor center is also worth some time to spend, so even if we had more than two hours, it felt short! The rest of the places were also beautiful and interesting, but undoubtely the Cliffs are the stars here. I would take this same tour anytime! Peter is the greatest guide ever!

I highly recommend this full day tour with Sean and Robert. The plan of the day was clearly explained and Covid protocols were put into place (spaced out seating and mandatory masks while riding on the bus.) Plenty of time was given for each stop. Not only did we enjoy some breathtaking views, but we also learned a lot of history as well as listened to a variety of Irish music as we traveled from place to place. Sean was a great guide with a fun sense of humor. He even sang a performance of a classic Irish song and didn't miss a beat! We only had a few days in Ireland, so when we come back, we'll definitely look into the other tours offered by Finn McCools Tours! Thanks Sean and Robert! We hope your dreams come true!! ;) -M & J Wicks

I am writing this review for GetYourGuide and Tripadvisor. I enjoyed this trip on August 18th. My guide for the day was Peter and the driver was Martin. Both were excellent professionals - Peter was as serious and knowledgeable when talking about the places' history as he was funny and friendly, and Martin showed great skill when driving safely through foggy, narrow mountain roads. Glendalough National Park was strikingly beautiful, and I would have gladly spent all day there. Wicklow mountains were amazing as well, and we were lucky that the fog lifted soon to let us appreciate its beauty. We didn't spend too much time in Kilkenny, but I did enjoy taking a walk around the city center.

Kevin and Arthur were great. Although we spent long time on the bus, the view was fabulous. Kevin was really funny and friendly. He introduced history and culture even when we were still in Dublin. Like a mini city tour, which was great and very professional. Thanks again!

Our assistant (Aiden) was an excellent toit guide and showed us all the neat areas in the Cliff of Moher
