Enrich your stay in Dresden with a visit to Pillnitz Castle and enjoy a guided tour through this beautiful castle known as the Saxon Versailles.
What to Expect
We will leave Dresden and enjoy a short drive along the old vineyards in the Elbe valley. After 12 kilometres (7 miles), we will reach Pillnitz Castle, idyllically situated on the banks of the river Elbe.
Pillnitz Castle was built from 1720 to 1723 on behalf of Augustus II the Strong, who had the castle built for his mistress Countess Cosel. Later, Pillnitz Castle served as summer residence of the Saxon kings.
Enjoy a walk through the beautiful park surrounding the castle. In the gardens, there are a variety of pavilions, which all differ thematically and functioned as a location for parties and amusements. Some of the pavilions later served as offices for study and pursuit of the arts.
The palm house and the orangery are home to numerous plants. Take part in the very popular guided tour through the park surrounding the castle and enjoy the electoral atmosphere.
Afterwards, we will drive back to Dresden.
