What People Are Saying About Down House
Exceptionally well organised exhibition, the interviews with people who manned the facility during the war brings to life the tension and determination of the team lead by Churchill, to repel the threat of a Nazis invasion and overthrow the facist regime terrorising Europe.
Why the site stayed entombed for 40 years remained a mystery. Also the precise intervals when it was used by the principals, whereas it was seemingly used by staff to the very end, Aug. 45. But it is a remarkable preservation and reconstitution, fully conveying for the future the drama, tenuousness and how much hung in the balance in those years, with Churchill of course central. Fascinating in its detail and awesome in its atmosphere, we feel this tribute to Britain's "finest hour" is not to be missed.
Worth every penny, but there is no fast entry for ticket holders and had to queue in the rain. That bit is poorly organised at peak/ busy periods.
Audio tape for the tour was very informative. It was amazing to have walked and been in the war rooms where Churchill walked. Very good day out. The tour was a birthday present for my husband and he certainly wasn't disappointed. Thank you
Well presented and full of fascinating and interesting facts to make the whole story come to life however the four chapters are not easy to follow in sequence and could be better displayed in separate sections to make the visitor more easily follow the story in the right order. Nevertheless a wonderful experience.
