Douro Valley: Wine Tour with Lunch, Tastings & River Cruise
- Pickup available
- Duration: 10 hours
Enjoy a traditional “6 Bridges Cruise” along the River Douro and follow in the footsteps of the old wine merchants that transported wine from the valley to the wine cellars. Board the boat at Ribeira Quay and sail for 50 minutes along the river. Admire the beautiful landscapes and buildings of Ribeira and Vila Nova de Gaia from the water. Known as "Rabelo Boats," in reference to the old boats that transported wine from the Douro Valley, the cruise is the perfect chance to learn more about the historic bridges that connect Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. Learn more about their construction and curiosities, and upon arrival at the last bridge, see the Foz do Douro where the river pours into the ocean.
It was really fun, the people were nice and we did not have to wakt long. There are 2 boats and one leaves every half hour. I would suggest taking one at 6 like we did, after the boatride we went for a hike to go up on one of the bridges and saw a beautiful sunset. We also had golden hour etc so we were really happy that we took the boat at 6. The people spoke excellent english! There is also a cable car ride by the boats. Wich is a really fun experience aswell!!

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour, our guide Claudia was informative, interesting and amusing. She was always pointing out places or points of interest on our journey right to the end, making sure that we were Covid safe at all times. The hosts at the two wineries were also very informative and passionate about their product. The lunch provided was tasty and well presented with a beautiful view of the vineyards. The boat trip was a charming restful and relaxing interlude. We had a lovely day and would thoroughly recommend this tour to give you a wider appreciation of Porto and Portugal.
Navigate a unique river, in the heart of the oldest demarcated wine region of the world which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll start this adventure from Pinhao, pass under the Eiffel iron bridge going upstream to the Tua area where you will turn around to make the return journey. Along the way, see hills of terraced vineyards with no national roads or traffic in sight. Although you will do the same stretch up and down, it will appear different, as it is seen from two different points of view, and also because there is so much to see in this stunning region of the world. The traditional Rabelo boats have open and closed areas, so navigation can be comfortably be made in all kinds of weather, all year long.
The audio guide is wonderful although it uses a lot of phone battery. It would be nice to have it also on the return. The views are spectacular and it was good to learn about the different wineries. Be sure to bring your own water as beverages are not provided.
Navigate on a unique river, in the heart of the oldest wine demarcated region in the world and also a UNESCO world heritage site. You start from Pinhão, pass under the Eiffel iron bridge going up stream until the Roncão area where you turn around and return to Pinhão. Along the way you’ll see hills of terraced vineyards until the river, with no national roads or traffic in sight. Although you do the same stretch up and down, it could very well be a different one, because seeing it in one direction and then on the other creates two completely different points of view and sights. The traditional rabelo boats have open and closed areas, so navigation can be comfortably made in all kinds of weather, all year long.
Peaceful river cruise, a great change from other more active experiences. I actually didn't think I would like it very much, but I did. Definitely recommended.

This winery tour of the Douro Valley was MUCH better than expected. Our guide, Hugo, was very informative, caring, and navigated the tricky roads with ease. The whole experience was planned to provide education and enjoyment for all. We walked into a vineyard and learned about the grape vines and varieties, explored vintage grape stomping and processing rooms, and tasted amazing varieties. Lunch was prepared in the most beautiful and idyllic setting. You will not regret booking this tour. Thank you, Hugo! - Bob & Sandy

Beautiful day cruise, good food and great service. But it is a long day excursion.
Meet at 8:45am at Estiva quay in Oporto and board your boat heading to Régua, known worldwide as the capital of the Vine and Wine. It was a beautiful cruise with fantastic views The one point of criticism was the audio system which was dismal We could not hear what was being said so from that perspective we didn’t get anything out of it
Enjoy a private boat tour along the Douro River. From the boat, you will be able to admire spectacular views of the Douro Valley, its impressive vineyards, and traditional stone walls. If you prefer to go inside the boat, it has a glassed-in lounge, which offers 360-degree views. In addition, the roof can be opened so that you can enjoy the delicious sunshine whilst sheltering from the wind. Sit back and enjoy a glass of Douro or Port wine as you take in the landscapes of the region.
Starting from Pinhão, pass under the iron bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel. Continue along the River Douro, admiring hills of terraced vineyards with no cars in sight. Take in the scenic views of the oldest wine region in the world, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once you reach the Roncão area, you will turn around and start the return journey to Pinhão. Although you will do the same stretch of the river on the way back, you will have a different point of view of the sights along the way. The traditional Rabelo boats have open and closed areas, so navigation can be comfortably made in all kinds of weather, all year long.
It goes exactly the same route as the non private tour but I am really glad we did it this way. Got to talk with the captain and sit wherever we wanted. Also a smaller boat so closer to the nature.

Thiago was a amazing tour guide. From start to finish the professionalism and execution of the whole day was flawless. His interaction with all guests no matter the language was great. Really bringing the whole experience together. Thank you and I’ll be come back for sure. One of the most beautiful places I’ve been in Portugal.
Had a great day, made all the better by our amazing tour guide Joanne and of course Luca who drove our comfortable bus carefully, on very narrow windy roads. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the day and would recommend it as value for money.
As we expected, the trip is beautiful. It was a very pleasant two hours, we were just two couples on board and Paulo, who is an excellent host.
Enjoyed the ride , was able to see nice places and be told the history
Its an amazing experience! You have to do it once in Porto!
