  • Porto: River Douro 6 Bridges Cruise

    1. Porto: River Douro 6 Bridges Cruise

Enjoy a traditional “6 Bridges Cruise” along the River Douro and follow in the footsteps of the old wine merchants that transported wine from the valley to the wine cellars. Board the boat at Ribeira Quay and sail for 50 minutes along the river. Admire the beautiful landscapes and buildings of Ribeira and Vila Nova de Gaia from the water. Known as "Rabelo Boats," in reference to the old boats that transported wine from the Douro Valley, the cruise is the perfect chance to learn more about the historic bridges that connect Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. Learn more about their construction and curiosities, and upon arrival at the last bridge, see the Foz do Douro where the river pours into the ocean.

It was really fun, the people were nice and we did not have to wakt long. There are 2 boats and one leaves every half hour. I would suggest taking one at 6 like we did, after the boatride we went for a hike to go up on one of the bridges and saw a beautiful sunset. We also had golden hour etc so we were really happy that we took the boat at 6. The people spoke excellent english! There is also a cable car ride by the boats. Wich is a really fun experience aswell!!

We enjoyed our day trip, but feel it was not really value-for-money. We paid £288 for a private day trip in a nice car with a good driver, but who was not really a guide - he was just a nice guy! Amarante it’s billed as a beautiful town, but the main attraction, the church is closed for renovation. The Mateus Palace is fantastic, but despite the high price of the trip, we had to pay our own entrance fees and pay for our lunch at the winery.

Very nice cruise. Duration of 50 minutes which allows you to see everything. Explanations in Portuguese and English. The best way to see the bridges and take your best shots.

Great trip on the Duoro River, they show you all the great bridges with detailed explanation about their history.

Recommended experience, both for the landscape and the wines and the explanations of the guide (Hugo).
