What People Are Saying About Doge's Palace
We took the 3 days pass plus Alilagina (airport-cruise terminal-airport). When exchanging vouchers for tickets upon arriving at th airport, I was told we could use the tickets to Sn Marco, and later on finish the trip from San Marco to the cruise terminal. That was not so, we had to buy another ticket at €15.-, so beware! Otherwise the 3 days vaporetto were excellent! Would buy them again?
the tour was well worth the money as you can walk around on your own but the guides make what you see come to life !
Without the tour, you will have to wait hours to get in. Great tour. Great guide with great insight, explained clearly. Perfect!
Driving rain, almost knee-high water, walking across raised platforms and being pushed around by other tourists did not deter our WONDERFUL guide. She got us into and around the Doge's Palace and then back through a chaotic St Mark's square and into the Basilica which also was flooded. Her information was first class and given with enthusiasm and humour throughout very difficult circumstances. Bravo to her and thank goodness I had chosen to book ahead with this company.
Venice was wonderful, flooded but that added to the fun. The tour was comprehensive and led by an excellent guide with good English and a lovely sense of humour & not a little dislike for Napoleon! The tour of the Doge's palace was really impressive including crossing the Bridge of Sighs. The Basilica is so impressive and the tour allowed us to sit in a special area whilst the guide explained the features of the church and its decorations to us. The high tide & Sirocco wind led to flooding in St Mark's square (called the acqua alta) which had to be crossed either in Wellington boots or plastic lower leg overshoes/boots or by using the raised boards set up at these times. This slowed down the tour but took nothing away from the experience. This is an excellent tour with a good guide and I highly recommend it to you.
