Distomo

In this full day tour you will see the most beautiful sights and scenery. I will take you to multiple destinations in just a day! We will enjoy a visit to Delphi and the religious sites of Meteora. We will pass by Thermopylae, where the 300 Spartans fought and the breathtaking Arachova. However you may ask "Why should I buy this tour to Thermopylae, Meteora and Delphi from Athens or how is this different from others?" Our trip will start from Athens and then we will drive to Thermopylae, where we will visit Thermopylae's Innovative Centre of Historical Information and we will see the Statue of Leonidas. Afterwards we will drive to the breathtaking Meteora, where we will visit a lot of monasteries, built on top of 1000 foot rocks, such as the Holy Monastery of Varlaam, Rousanou and the Holy Trinity. Then we will take a break for a coffee at Kalabaka. Driving through the beautiful stone villages of Arachova where we'll be able to stop so that you can take photos and buy souvenirs. After a wonderful scenic drive through mountains and fertile valleys we reach Delphi, located under the 3000ft tall mountain Parnassos. There we will visit the Archaeological museum of Delphi, we will see the Archaeological site of Delphi and the site of the temple of Apollo. And lastly before our return to Athens we will Enjoy A Great dinner in a local resturant that is included in our expirience.

Distomo a dramatic village in 1944 350 people lost their lifes,it was a Nazi war crime perpetrated by members of the Waffen-SS in the village of Distomo, Greece, in 1944, during the German occupation of Greece during World War II. After that, we'll return back to Athens. In the end of the tour all the travellers will enjoy in a very beautiful greek taverna some greek food such as grill meat, fish, salads, deserts, wine, beer, soft dinks and many more.

MOUNT PARNASSUS DELPHI Mount Parnassus is a mountain in central Greece that towers above Delphi, north of the Gulf of Corinth. Mount Parnassus offers many advantages to the population of Greece. In peace, it possesses scenic views of the countryside and features olive groves and rolling hills. The mountain is also the location of historically, archaeologically, and culturally significant places of interest (such as Delphi). Recreationally, the slopes of Parnassus provide a medium for hiking (in the three warm seasons) and are skied in winter. Its melting snows provide water to the surrounding communities, reaching out as far as Athens. The mountain is composed of limestone, and its rock contains bauxite, ore that is rich in aluminum. In war, Parnassus has been a center of resistance if need be, providing cover and refuge to partisans. 3. MONASTERY HOSIOS LOUKAS Hosios Loukas is a historic walled monastery situated near the town of Distomo, in Boeotia, Greece. It is one of the most important monuments of Middle Byzantine architecture and art and has been listed on UNESCO's World Heritage Sites, along with the monasteries of Nea Moni and Daphnion. The monastery of Hosios Loukas is situated at a scenic site on the slopes of Mount Helicon. It was founded in the early 10th century AD by the hermit, Venerable (Greek: Hosios) Luke of Steiris (Greek: Lukas), whose relics are kept in the monastery to this day. The main shrine of the monastery is the tomb of St. Luke, originally situated in the vault, but later placed at the juncture of the two churches. The monastery derived its wealth (including funds required for construction) from the fact that the relics of St. Luke were said to have exuded myron, a sort of perfumed oil which produced healing miracles. 4. THOLOS OF ATHENA PRONAIA The tholos at the sanctuary of Athena Pronoia (Ἀθηνᾶ Πρόνοια, “Athena of forethought”) is a circular building that was constructed between 380 and 360 BC. It consisted of 20 Doric columns arranged with an exterior diameter of 14.76 meters, with 10 Corinthian columns in the interior. The Tholos is located approximately a half a mile (800 meters) from the main ruins at Delphi. 6. DELPHI ARCHAELOGICAL MUSEUM Delphi Archaeological Museum is one of the principal museums of Greece and one of the most visited. 7. Your driver/guide will pick you up from your hotel or apartment anywhere in Athens at the beginning of your trip. You'll enjoy scenic views on the along the drive, passing through Thiva, Livadia, and Distomo on the way to the village of Steiri. Near Steiri you'll visit the Hosios Loukas Monastery. From the monastery, your tour will continue to Arachova and on through the majestic mountains and fertile valleys to Delphi. You'll visit the ancient city of Delphi and the Temple of Apollo, home to the Oracle of Delphi. Delphi was inhabited since Mycenaean times and the worship of Apollo was established between the 11th and 9th century B.C. In the 8th century B.C. Delphi became internationally known for the Oracular powers of Pythia, the high priestess, who sat on a tripod, inhaled ethylene gasses, and muttered incomprehensible words that foretold the future. The ancient people of the Mediterranean had such faith in Pythia’s view of the future, that no major decision was made without consulting the Oracle of Delphi first. In ancient Delphi, you will also see the Stadium of Delphi, built around the 4th century B.C. and visit the Delphi Archeological Museum. Finally, your driver/guide will take you to the modern village of Delphi where you'll have time to purchase lunch at a scenic traditional tavern before the return drive back to Athens. Your driver'guide will drop you off at your hotel or apartment at the end of your trip.
