Giriama is one of the subtribes of the Mijikenda (9 tribes) people that inhabit the coastal area of Kenya.
This is a unique trip to the African Village for an unforgettable, true, authentic, and un-staged African experience, interact with the locals, eat what they eat, do what they do, and talk as they talk.
The tour will open a door into the daily lives of local villagers, you will understand their way of life from their point of view.
The amazing part about this tour is that it is not rushed, not over-commercialized, and not staged but natural and authentic. The beautiful natural landscape, fresh air, and warm smiles from the kind-hearted villagers will bring about a therapeutic experience for any traveler.
Stop one: Ibiza Market
Once the guide picks your group, you will pass by the Ibiza Market, here you will appreciate how local communities live and do trade. This is an open-air market full of activities. Traders sell multiple things ranging from fish, clothes, and food items.
Stop 2. Local School
You will then pass by a local community school overlooked by a huge Baobab Tree. You will have a chance to interact with joyous school kids depending on the time of the day. If you have any gifts (toys, balls, sweets, clothes, etc) feel free to share them with them.
Stop 3: Madafu and palm tree climbing and ugali preparations.
You will then go to the Madafu section, where the local person will climb a palm tree with you and harvest a fresh Madafu depending on availability and season you will be invited to taste. Depending on the time of the day, you can prepare a traditional meal known as ugali cooking using firewood and cashew nut preparations.
Stop 4: Traditional healer
You will then visit the traditional healer a respected medicine man who used traditional herbs to heal many deceases. Here villagers still subscribe to unconventional medicine that they believe are solutions to most of the ailments. You will have a chance to be taken through how they make the medicine from traditional herbs and how this skill is passed over to generations.
Stop 5: Dance Arena
You will then be guided through the cool narrow streets of Mwamanga village. The next stop will be the dance area where you will dance your problems away. Each dance has a meaning from wedding dances, celebrations dances to funeral dances You will be invited to dance several dances of the Giriama people. The welcoming villagers will allow you to their houses and see how they live.
