St. Catherine’s was built in the 5th Century around a 4th Century Chapel which is said to be the spot where Moses encountered God speaking to him from a burning bush. A frequently photographed bush at the chapel is said to be a direct descendent of the original.

You will leave Dahab at 08:00. After visiting the monastery and having lunch, a mountain guide will accompany the group up Mt. Sinai in time to see the sunset from the summit. The tour returns to Dahab between 21:00 and 23:00, depending on the time of sunset.

• The monastery is open 09:00-12:00 daily except on Sundays and Christian Orthodox holidays, when it is closed, and on Fridays, when it is open 10:30-11:30; please check with us regarding availability of the trip
• The monastery dress code requires all visitors, male or female, to have their arms and legs covered
•Please note that the St Catherine trip is controlled by regulations from the Egyptian government. In an effort to help the Bedouin of Sinai, the government assigns Bedouin mountain guides to all tour groups. As a consequence, we do not have control over which guide is assigned to you; the knowledge of English and level of service may differ from guide to guide.
