This tour takes you onto the desert plain and to the farming lands of Egypt. Learn some easy yet ancient techniques at a local’s farm, explore the healing powers of desert herbs, and enjoy a tradition farm lunch.
What to Expect
Explore, quite literally, the very roots of Egyptian life. This Dahab tour takes you out into the farming lands of Egypt, teaches you some ancient practices that the locals have been using for centuries, and, as if all that were not enough, shows you some mad cooking skills as well.
You will be picked up from your hotel in Dahab, and from there you will take a ride out towards the entrance of the desert at Wadi Murrah, which is around a 1.5-hour drive from Dahab. Once you have reached the entrance, meet your local farm owner, who will take you to his land. Be welcomed on this Egypt tour with a glass of sweetened Bedouin tea, as well as an introduction to farming in Egypt and the ways in which you can help these projects.
Take a stroll through the small farm and get familiarised with the crops, before being given the chance to try out some farming yourself. This tour takes a hands-on approach, and instead of simply talking to you about Egyptian farming practices, you will be invited to try a few. This is the perfect way to become a local for the day and the tasks at hand will just be small jobs that anyone can manage. Your local farmer and guide will lead you through the jobs and give you plenty of tips along the way.
All your hard work will be rewarded with a delicious traditional lunch, made from freshly prepared farm produce and cooked over an open fire. While the meal is being prepared, your local host can also show you how to make fresh Egyptian bread, which is baked to perfection under hot coals.
Once you have recharged with some great grub, take a short trek into the surroundings, where you will learn about the indigenous herbs that grow on the desert plain. Your local guide will give you fascinating insights into how these plants have been used over the centuries and what kind of ailments each of them treat. This Egypt tour really does give you some serious knowledge.
Pop back to the farm to enjoy some more refreshing Bedouin tea, then jump into your vehicle and head back to Dahab. You will be dropped off at your hotel, wher you can enjoy a well-deserved rest after a day of living off the land like a local.
