The BEST Things to Do in Cusco - Top Activities in 2024

We had an amazing time visiting Rainbow Mountain and the Red Valley! They picked us up from our hotel in Cusco around 3 am then drove a couple hours to our breakfast stop. Though the stars were still shining, we enjoyed a breakfast buffet before continuing another hour to the beginning of the trek. Our guides began with a little pep talk and then we started the climb. I appreciate that we had two guides as one stayed near the front of the group and the other bear the end. We could walk at our own pace but never felt left behind. Along the way there were opportunities to have a rest and use the bathroom. Once we reached the top we had plenty of time to take photos. As we were one of the first groups at the top, it wasn't crowded and we had great photo ops. When we were done there, we were given the opportunity to visit Red Valley for an extra 30 sol. I highly recommend you take them up on this as it isn't much farther and the views are breathtaking!!

Once in a lifetime experience Forget the one day visit to Machu Picchu, do this instead. The trail is stunningly beautiful and our guide, Isao was a wealth of knowledge from Inca culture to botanics and animals. With his help we managed to see a Toucan which was very special. We could hike at our own pace while enjoying the amazing mountain landscape and Inca ruins. I highly recommend this trail to all, no need for much experience, just bring the correct gear. The view from Sun Gate is well worth it and you even pass the upper terraces for the Instagram pictures. The tour through Machu Picchu the following day (route 3) gives a really good sense of Inca culture and everyday life. All in all, just do it.

Amazing tour in the Sacred Valley, the tour is very well organised. Jorge and the other tour guide were exceptional, very knowledgeable and attentive to the group. Also the driver was great and very friendly. The excursion covers the highlights of the Sacred Valley and I couldn’t recommend it enough booking this tour. Had the best time. Absolutely amazing!!! Loved every second. Such a lovely place, knowledgeable guide and he really cares about his animals. They are well looked after and cared for. Such a lovely place. Highly recommend. This is clearly a genuine sanctuary and is well worth supporting their hard work.
