Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco - Mollepata (Marcoccasa) - Soraypampa
(Meals: L, D)
Leave Cusco at 5:30 and head toward Marcoccasa (11,154 feet, 3,400 meters), passing the village Mollepata (9,843 feet, 2,997 meters). In Marcoccasa you will meet the horsemen and the rest of the group and start your trek. Begin hiking in a magnificent valley surrounded by impressive snow-capped mountains such as Humantay (17,116 feet, 5,217 meters) and Salkantay (20,551 feet, 6,264 meters). Your campsite will be at Soraypampa (12,139 feet, 3,700 meters).

Day 2: Sorayapampa – Salkantay Pass - Challway (Meals: B, L, D)
After breakfast, you will set off toward Salkantay Pass (15,092 feet, 4,600 meters) which offers an exceptional view of snow-capped Salkantay (20,551 feet, 6,264 meters). Thereafter, you will descend again and will have time to enjoy the increasing vegetation of the ecosystem. Your campsite will be in Challway (9,842 feet, 3,000 meters), amid the tropical forest with a warm climate and mosquitoes.

Hiking time: 8-9 hours

Day 3: Challway – Wiñaypoco – La Playa (Meals: B, L, D)
The third day is dedicated to the region’s flora and its plantations. After descending to a dimmed forest and enjoying the diversity of different species of orchids, Bromelains, and many other plants, you will see coffee, cacao, and fruit plantations. Moreover, you will have the opportunity to meet local families of Wiñaypoco (8,694 feet, 2,650 meters) and La Playa (6,890 feet, 2,100 meters). Your campsite will be in La Playa.

Hiking time: 6 hours

Note: According to the group’s wishes, it is possible to change the itinerary a bit and visit the hot springs in Santa Teresa (6,004 feet, 1,830 meters) this day.

Day 4: La Playa – Llactapata – Aguas Calientes Town (Meals: B, L, D)
Early in the morning, your trail leads you to the archaeological complex of Llactapata (8,694 feet, 2,650 meters) located amid an eclectic array of vegetation. From here, you will have a beautiful view of the mountain Machu Picchu. Afterward, you will continue down to the hydroelectric station (6,398 feet, 1,950 meters). Here you will take the train toward Aguas Calientes (6,726 feet, 2,050 meters), where you will spend the night in a hotel.

Climate: Warm with some insects
Hiking time: 6 hours

Day 5: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco (Meals: B)
You will leave your hotel after breakfast at 5:30 and head for Machu Picchu (7,874 feet, 2,400 meters) by tourist bus. You will arrive at the citadel around 6:00. After a guided tour around the archaeological site, including information about the life and culture of the Incas, you will have enough time to enjoy Machu Picchu and Wayna Picchu (9,022 feet, 2,750 meters) on your own. You will leave Aguas Calientes by train either at 14:55 or at 18:45. Until then, you will have time to have lunch in one of the nice restaurants. Moreover, you can visit the hot springs in Aguas Calientes to relax a bit.
