What to Expect
Spend 4 glorious days and 3 nights trekking along the breathtaking Inca trail, climbing the ancient stone steps of the trail, weaving between the switchbacks of the staggering mountains, and rising above the clouds themselves, to arrive at the unforgettable Machu Picchu.

Day 1: From Cusco to Yuncachimpa

Depart from Cusco as the sun breaks at 05:30 and board the bus for the Sacred Valley of the Incas. After a short break for breakfast in Ollantaytambo, cross the beautiful Rio Urubamba to begin the legendary Inca Trail. Enjoy the leisurely pace of the first day's hike and stop for lunch at a small river bank by the archaeological complex of Llactapata. Continue the hike to Wayllabamba, ascending to Yuncachimpa and its spectacular view of the mysterious Nevado de Veronica, where you will camp for the night.

Difficulty: Moderate/Easy
Hiking time: 5-6 hours
Total distance: Approximately 7 miles

Day 2: From Yuncachimpa to Chaquicocha

The second day of the hike is slightly more grueling, but the pace is yours to set. Climb the stony steps of the trail at your own pace, meeting back up with your friends and fellow hikers during the short breaks interspersed through the day. Follow the trails leading through the Valley of Llulluchapampa in the morning, enjoying the humid woodland and the sounds of water surrounding you, until you crest the highest point of this section, the Warmihuañusca (or Dead Woman Pass), measuring at a staggering height altitude of 11,3780 feet. After a short break at the summit, continue your hike down with a long and steep descent to the river Pacaymayu (Sunrise River) towards the Runkurakay pass until you reach the Chaquicocha campsite where you can rest and enjoy the amazing view over the mountains.

Difficulty: Challenging
Hiking time: 7-8 hours
Total distance: Approximately 9 miles

Day 3: From Chaquicocha to Wiñayhuayna

The third day is the most beautiful one. Notice a change in the eco-system while walking to the tropical forest of Wiñaywayna and enjoy the gentle climb through the beautiful cloud forest and the spectacular view over the stunning Rio Urubamba Valley. Stop in at the Phuyupatamarca settlement, often called the "town above the clouds" and learn about the fascinating techniques of ancient Incan engineering. Pass through a series of Incan tunnels before arriving at the ruins of Wiñaywayna and your nearby campsite for the night.

Difficulty: Moderate/Easy
Hiking time: 5-6 hours
Total distance: Approximately 6 miles

Day 4: From Wiñayhuayna to Machu Picchu

Wake before sunrise and, equipped with flashlights, embark on the final stretch of the trail to the Into Punku (Sun Gate) to get the first glimpse of Machu Picchu and watch the sunrise over the ancient Incan site and the stunning Wayna Picchu mountain beside. Enjoy a 2-hour guided tour of the ruins before separating off from the group for your own archeological adventure in the sacred site. For example, you may choose to go to the Inca Bridge, explore the variety of buildings, or climb Wayna Picchu for an amazing panoramic picture. After a thorough exploration, a bus will take you down to Aguas Calientes, where you can soak away your aches and pain in the town’s hot springs and slowly return to Cusco.
