What to Expect
Mingle with the locals and discover a mix of colonial and contemporary sights in the enchanting city of Cuenca, capital of Ecuador’s Azuay Province and a dedicated UNESCO World Heritage Site in its old city center. Your 3-day package includes a choice of boutique and luxury hotels, and transportation to and from the airport.
Upon arrival at the airport, you will be transferred to your chosen hotel, which includes the option of the boutique Hotel Carvallo, the luxury Mansion Alcazar, or the deluxe Santa Lucia. The rest of the day is free at leisure to settle in.
Day 2: (B)
This morning you will take a city tour of Cuenca, traveling through the historic center to see all the main sights. Learn about the pre-Columbian society and Spanish settlement of the 16th century. At Calderon Park you can mingle with the locals, who go there to converse on the park benches. Admire the Old Cathedral (Catedral Vieja de Cuenca), built in the 16th century and now home to the Museum for Religious Art. Opposite lies the striking, 19th-century New Cathedral with its glazed blue and white domes. Continue to the daily Flower Market, awash with colorful tropical blooms.
Next, go to the Homero Ortega Panama Hat factory to observe the full process that goes into making this iconic headwear. Continue to the Puente Roto (“Broken Bridge”), which once straddled the Rio Tomebamba. Finally, enjoy panoramic views of the entire city from the Turi lookout. The afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure.
Day 3: (B)
After breakfast at your hotel, transfer to the airport for your onward flight and end of the tour services.
