Florence: 1-Hour Cupola Entry and Guided Tour
- Duration: 1 hour
Begin your tour in front of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, in the religious heart of Florence. Learn about the Baptistery of Saint John, as you see it from the outside, with its famous "Gates of Paradise". Head inside the cathedral to admire the mosaic decorations and see the Crypt of Santa Reparata. Visit the Opera del Duomo Museum, home to spectacular works of art including the original Gates of Paradise, Donatello's Maria Maddalena, and Michelangelo's Pieta. After the guided portion of the tour, climb 463 steps to Brunelleschi's Dome, to enjoy the best views over the city of Florence.
Enjoy skip-the-ticket-line admission to the Duomo complex in the heart of historic Florence. Your licensed guide will take you on a tour of the Duomo, the Baptistery, and the Opera Museum. You'll also see the exterior of Giotto’s Bell Tower. Admire the important works of art that reside in the Opera Museum including The Pietà by Michelangelo, and Ghiberti’s Gates of Paradise. You can also visit the remnants of the ancient church of Santa Reparata, on top of which the Duomo was constructed.
The exterior view of the Cupola is a showstopper, but the only way to see the inside of the dome up close and enjoy the extraordinary view of Florence is to climb its 463 steps. Discover how the Cupola was designed and built by Brunelleschi in 1418. Find out why the corridors are so narrow, and admire Giorgio Vasari's frescoes of the Last Judgment (1572-9) on your way up. Look down and on the base, just above the drum, see the balcony started, but never finished, in 1507. Hear about the fascinating story of the balcony and the unfinished eighth side from your guide. Once you climb to the top of the Cupola, you will be enchanted by the panoramic view of the Florence city in front of your eyes. Your guide will talk about the history and art of this Duomo Square and answer any of your questions regarding Duomo.
We really enjoyed this tour. We had a large group (16), so they divided us into two groups. Both guides spoke flawless English and were engaging and friendly. It was definitely a highlight of the day!

We were the only ones booked and received a private tour with our guide. He was very informative about the construction of the duomo and about florence in general. He was easy to locate at the start of the tour (this was a major problem on a GYG tour booked in Milan earlier in the week). Much more enjoyable experience overall!
Flexible organisation: we had booked a biketour but due to the pooring rain they suggested to do a walk instead. This was a very good alternative. Because of the motivated and professional guide we had a perfect tour! A next time we would defenitely book a tour again!
Very interesting and informative guided tour by bike with Francesco. Good way to get an impression of the city by bike in a small group of people where Francesco could answer our questions and recommend us what to do and where to go during our stay in Florence.
