Explore the island of Crete on this varied full-day tour. Visit the monumental Palace of Knossos, explore the Lasithi Plateau, visit the birth cave of the father of gods Zeus, and learn more about the history of Greece.
What to Expect
Visit the Palace of Knossos during your stay in Crete and learn more about the changing times in ancient Greece. As European culture still dawned in the darkness of history, the Minos kings ruled over the Cretan people with humanity and justice in the 1400 rooms of the labyrinthine palace and bestowed the island almost 2000 years of peace.
Then drive along the Serpentine Road to the next destination: the Lasithi Plateau, located at about 850 meters high, surrounded by the high peaks of the White Mountains. The Lasithi Plateau is one of the main areas of cultivation of Cretan agriculture and is known for its windmills, sporadically covered during summer to move groundwater to high altitude for irrigation.
By the Psychro Cave, a path leads to the birth cave of the father of gods Zeus, an impressive stalactite cave. You can either ascend by foot or by donkey for an extra charge. Leave the plateau over the Ambelos Pass and hike through the village of Krasi back down to the coast.
