Venture into the ocean’s depth with a 1-day admission ticket to the CRETAquarium. One of Europe’s largest aquariums, over 2,000 sea creatures lice the CRETAquarium's 60 diverse habitats. Delve into the caves and crevices of the Mediterranean, where stingrays and rock-like scorpionfish slither about. Pop out into the open ocean, where menacing sharks circle, waiting to be fed. Get up close and personal with jellyfish and schools of vibrant tropical clownfish through shallow, open-topped tanks, which allow a new viewing perspective of well known species.  Above all, gain a new appreciation for the unending diversity of the world’s most mystifying environment. When you’ve had your fill of looking at the ocean’s residents, why not pop in for a dip? The CRETAquarium is, fittingly, right on the beach.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. The aquariums are lovingly designed and well signposted. The AudioGuide is highly recommended to find out more information about the animals. We got the tickets online in advance. Even so, there was a queue of almost an hour. But it was certainly due to the fact that the weather in Heraklion was rainy and the beach holidaymakers were looking for an alternative.

Great aquarium. Beautifully designed large pools. Everything very well maintained. There was a long line that we wanted to join. However, a member of staff came to me immediately and let us know that I am quite pregnant. Stupid for the others, but very good for me and incredibly attentive from the employee. Thanks very much!

It is air-conditioned and, especially in the current situation, MNB is mandatory. Hygiene measures are in place and only a certain number of people / families are allowed in. The aquarium is not the largest and has a selection of marine life that comes from the region and the surrounding sea. There are large and small pools that you can see. A special highlight is the large panorama pool, where you can sit down and watch. The sharks are also a popular target. In a good 1-1.5 hours you are through. A visit should be part of the program for families, the children will thank you for it.
