Departure from Uvita - Marino Ballena National Park: Upon arrival at the offices you will check-in with the tour guide in charge of the activity, you will start at the meeting point of our offices where the tour guide in charge of the group will receive you and give you instructions and fundamental information for the activity, additionally there will be a coffee, juice, cookies and water station for you to enjoy while we are waiting to gather the group. From Uvita Beach you will board a boat that will take you on a scenic ride on the Pacific Ocean with a tour of about 1.5 hours. The boat ride itself is an adventure, as it often offers sightings of dolphins, sea turtles and, if you are lucky, even humpback whales (January-April). Guided jungle hike: Upon arrival at San Pedrillo, you will enjoy a guided hike through the dense and vibrant rainforest. A professional naturalist tour guide will lead you through the trails, pointing out the incredible diversity of flora and fauna. Watch for howler monkeys, scarlet macaws, tapirs and a wide variety of birds and reptiles, all using telescopes and high quality nature observation equipment. This is a full day tour from 7:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. approximately, departing from Uvita to Corcovado on a boat ride of about an hour and a half, once we arrive we prepare for the hike approximately 2 to 3 hours, we will take some of the most common trails in the area, at the end we will share a picnic style lunch, The tour ends upon arrival at the departure point from Uvita. The fauna is exceptional, including species such as jaguars, tapirs, howler monkeys, and a wide variety of birds such as the scarlet macaw. There are also many species of reptiles and insects. December to March: This is considered the best time to visit Corcovado, as it is dry season. The conditions are ideal for hiking and wildlife viewing. The tour begins at 6:00 am on the main beach of Drake Bay. We took the boat to Sirena Station. In this first stage the trails are short, well-defined, and flat. The objective of this part of the tour is to interact with the group and try to see as many animals as possible, since, in the Sirena sector, the animals are more accustomed to humans, and there are few top predators, which makes it more easy to see them. This walk ends at noon, when we take the boat to the San Pedrillo Sector. HERE THE ADVENTURE BEGINS! On this tour the trails are irregular, wilder and in a more natural environment, we begin walking to the San Pedrillo Waterfall where we will have lunch. The objective of this part of the tour is to visit one of the only primary rainforests in the world, with ancient trees, forests that are more than 3000 years old. Here the animals are more elusive and maintain their natural behavior, making it more difficult to see them, although they can always surprise you. Here we need to apply our 5 senses to appreciate such a special forest. Once we have traveled 16 kilometers in total and have arrived safely at the refuge, we will have dinner and prepare to rest. The next day, we wake up to the sounds of the jungle, we will have breakfast and we will begin the exit route. This walk covers around 10km, always visiting wild trails away from humans. You will have the opportunity to bathe in freshwater rivers, and see a beautiful waterfall and we arrive at midday to the Los Planes sector where we have lunch and a 4X4 is waiting for us to drop us off at Drake. The tour starts at 7:30 AM. We will navigate the most important areas to look for dolphins, whales, sea turtles, sea birds and much more As an important fact, this area is the top place in all of Costa Rica to observe the incredible migration of humpback whales. The Humpback whale and Bryde´s whale are most common in the area. These huge mammals can reach up to 15 meters (50 ft) long; the females are somewhat bigger than the males. Despite their enormous size, they are able to jump out of the water providing a spectacular show for the ones lucky enough to be there at the right time. Another great experience – which is more likely to witness during the tour – is watching the offspring swim and play besides the huge mother whale. Whale watching in Uvita and Drake Bay Costa Rica has 2 seasons, from half July to half November and from half December to March. These seasons are based on the annual migration cycle of the pacific humpback whale. These animals travel from far to visit Marino Ballena in Uvita and Drake Bay. Each year the pacific humpback whales from the southern hemisphere travel from Antarctica to Costa Rica and arrive around the end of July to October. The pacific whales from the northern hemisphere do the same, but they travel from Alaska to Costa Rica and arrive around the end of December. They travel between 5000 km (3100 mi) and 8000 km (5000 mi); twice a year! Whale watching and dolphin watching in Costa Rica, during this tour we can see the humpback whales, spotted dolphins, bottle noses, turtles and sea birds combined with snorkeling in the tail of the whale or whale island where you can see different types of reef fish. In summer it is the best time for snorkeling, This depends on the weather conditions. Uvita Bahía Ballena and Drake Bay are privileged places for the best whale watching in Costa Rica for its warm and safe waters are chosen by these cetaceans.

After a 40 minute journey, we reach the Los Planes station, where the adventure starts. This approximately 18 km hike takes you through wild and natural areas of the Corcovado biological corridor, allowing you to appreciate the vastness of a true jungle with a millennial forest spanning over 3000 years. Along the way, you'll encounter an impressive waterfall and cross rivers where you can cool off. The trails include uphill and downhill sections, as well as flat parts with mud during the rainy season. Consider your physical condition for the entire journey. The focus of this tour is to engage all your senses for a unique experience that will linger in your memory. Our goal is not the easy spotting of animals, although you'll encounter them on the path. They inhabit their natural environment, but their observation can be challenging due to dense vegetation.
