I had seen a television documentary about the Colosseum so knew quite a lot about it but there's nothing like waling round it and seeing how it was built. I was disappointed that my audio player ran out before I visited the Palatine Hill because I found this fascinating. I asked for a refund but was refused. I hadn't been warned that the player only lasted for 2 hours and would have gone to the Palatine Hill before the Forum had I known. The English was excellent and I found both places very interesting and could have stayed longer. Well worth a visit.
The long wait to get started was a disappointing surprise but skip the queue worked and it is a phenomenal site and takes a good two hours to cover it all before crossing to the Collosseum . Again our tour was at 11am but the Collisseum entrance was not allowed until 2pm - didn’t know this until we collected the tickets . In truth it allowed plenty of time to see the Forum and Palatine Hill but better pre-tour communication would have improved the experience .
I know you have directions but when you are visiting a place you don’t realize the distance. We didn’t save time probably because was not summer, the lines were short and my family had to wait for me to pick up the tickets. I appreciate the lady give me some time to go back and reschedule my tickets. What amazed me is that we had our digital tickets but I had to go to the office to get printed out.
This visit would have been so much better if we hadn't been harassed outside by people offering to sell us tickets, be our guides, etc. Also, we tried to go into the Forum the next day as we ran out of time. You CANNOT get into the Forum for free, no matter what Trip Advisor tells you! If we'd known this we would have made the effort to go there the same day as the Colosseum and Palatine Hill.
We visited the historic sites of Rome that we wanted to. Our experience was pure magic, the ancient history, often so spectacularly preserved! Rome is authentic and a special city. Even the shopping streets are special. This was an enriching and thoroughly enjoyable few days in our lives. The only problem was that it was way too short and absolute reason to return!
