Hops and malt, may God preserve thee. "Kölsch" is the only language you can also drink! Take a tour through four breweries, and learn what a real Kölsch has to have to be worthy of the name.
What to Expect
Hops and malt, God bless thee! "Kölsch" is the only language you can also drink! The authentic enjoyment of Kölsch isn't just about getting a buzz, but rather about making a fun round through the breweries with friendly companions.
The favorite drink of the Kölner is healthy. Since the Kölsch Convention of 1986, Kölsch has been precisely defined: what it is, where it is brewed, and from what sort vessel it is drunk. Since recently, Kölsch is also protected across Europe as a regional specialty on the basis of the Kölsch Convention.
After the tour you will have learned about 4 breweries and tested their products and be able to distinguish between a Kölsch and an Alt.
Every participant receives a documentary with the stories of each of the 4 breweries, anecdotes, and a list of all the breweries still in operation. This way you can later relive the tour in all of its details.
You will visit the following breweries: Früh am Dom Brewery (you'll get to know this building from the basement to the upper floors), Peters Brewery or Gilden im Sims, Gaffel Haus in the Old Market (the guilds of Köln are represented here), and the Bierhaus on the Salzglass (the highlight of the "three-star to the prince's guard" carnival parade). These can be visited in a different order upon request.
- A Kölsch beer in each of the four breweries and a "Kölsche Herbal Liqueur" on the way to the last brewery
- Information and a personal "brewery certificate"
