Colca Canyon: Tours & Tickets
What people are saying about Colca Canyon
This was a great tour. The guide was great, the van was comfortable, the driver was very good. They stopped many times along the way to give us time to see many sights and lots of local wild life, taking the time to explain everything along the way in both English and Spanish. We saw llamas, alpacas, vicuñas and condors up close. There was plenty of time to hike around and spend time exploring several places along the way. The lunch and dinner options were not great, but OK. The food for the lunches was buffet and expect buffet quality (meaning not good) and the dinner was OK with the show reasonably entertaining. Overall we were extremely happy with the trip and had a great time. We are seniors and had no issues with any of the trip, there were a couple of places at high altitude where we needed to stop and get our breath a bit, but I would say most people would not have any significant issues and you can choose to be more passive and easily avoid pushing yourself too hard.
Breathe deeply and look out the window. Read Wikipedia beforehand.
Avoid altitude and motion sickness by doing the above so you can enjoy the unique, spectacular views. I'm glad to have have had a GPS with an altimeter so I could track each level of height, and a plastic card and handkerchief to keep the ice from forming too thickly on the window. The tour guide was a good story teller, but sometimes she spoke too fast in her thick accent. The hot springs were unique, but if you spend too much time in them they sap your energy. I would do it again. Very enjoyable!
What an experience seeing the condors. Our guide Deena was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the animals, mountains and history of the area, she made the long trip go by quickly. Our overnight stay in the quaint village of Chivay was a delightful change from the large cities of Peru. The food was really good and 2 lunches were included in the tour. Great adventure.
This was a great tour. The hotel was great, the hot springs were fun, and the Canyon and surrounding area was amazing. Having a guide was essential to the tour. She knew an incredible amount of history, geology, anthropology, and was well versed in flora and fauna. It was great to hear about what we were seeing, and how it all fit together.
My girlfriend and I had a great tour. Saw active volcanoes and big condor birds in the colcoa canyon. The driver and guide were excellent and very knowledgeable. They even had some alcohol on hand to help with altitude sickness. Would recommend for other travelers
