Overview

What to Expect
Browse the temples of one of the largest Mayan cities of the Classic Period: Coba. If you are bold enough to climb the highest pyramid of the Mayan Riviera, the reward will be one of the most stunning panoramas in the area. Over 40 meters high, Nohuch Mul, which in Mayan means “big hill”, is the largest pyramid in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Coba is translated into Spanish as “water stirred by wind”. Between 400 and 1100 AD, it was one of the largest cities in the Classic Maya period, reaching accommodate about 50,000 inhabitants. One of the main reasons it was settled there were two small lakes supplying water to the population. Walk in the shadow of the treetops, wrapped in the sounds and the green of the jungle. It’s also noticeable that you can get to the pyramid either walking or on a bicycle. To counter the heat, on the way to Tulum go to the pristine waters of Gran Cenote. This cenote is perfect for diving enthusiasts, you’ll be able to do snorkeling in its circular interior. Its depth is 10 meters and it is illuminated by natural light which makes it a spectacular water view.
On a different day, avoid the heat and the crowds in ruins of Tulum. Your tour will be guided by an archaeologist who will explain you in deep the background of the site and the Mayan Culture, you will be back at you hotel for lunch time to enjoy the beach and with a great knowledge of this culture. Tulum is one of the most studied archeological sites in Quintana Roo. Thanks to the early access you will enjoy more time to admire its architechtual and natural beauty. You will admire the emblematic building known as El Castillo, mainly used for religious rituals and as a lighthouse for Maya merchant ships sailing along the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula.
