What people are saying about Clérigos Church
My husband and I entered the Torre dos Clerigos tower and exchanged our vouchers for tickets. First you start to climb stairs up and back down for a bit as you go around the church and view it from different angles. We thought that we would then directly enter the tower, as there appeared to be no wait. However, once we finally reached the tower entrance there was about a 20 minute wait before they let more people up, as we had to wait for some people to first come down. As all reviews that I've read say the climb up and down is very narrow. It is only one path to go both ways and you have to alternate as you let people go down as you are climbing up. Unfortunately we were only able to make it to the first view point, half way up the climb, as we factored in the time it would take to get all the way up at this point and having to get back down, and we were already leaving Porto to catch a flight back home that evening.
This was a fantastic two hours tour, really informative and perfect for navigating all the steep hills which we would never have managed on foot Our guide was Dutch and spoke perfect English We certainly felt we got our money's worth It was good fun and we covered a lot of ground The meeting point was a little difficult to find because they are currently recovering from a fire and the signage was not very good Lots of stops for photos and general questions
Our family of 5 enjoyed every minute. My kids Ages 4,6,9 loved the little cars And the open air and the fast paced. We saw many more sights than what we would have seen on our own. Our kids would have been too hot, tired, and hungry for us to try to navigate and park and walk to all the locations. We also got to venture off the beaten path to some great photo spots that were not packed with tourist.
The tower was just great, I was exhausted arriving at the top, but it was totally worth it. I was also impressed with the gigantic collection of images of Jesus Christ. I was not so impressed with the people walking against the prescribed route which made them pass me real close (approx. 10 centimetres). But all in all, a great experience which I can recommended to everyone.
The inside of the tower was absolutely beautiful and the view once at the top was beautiful as well! It’s a higher climb with the stairs being quite steep and tight at times. Once at the top the area outside is small so be prepared to be squished with others and to have to squeeze past people.
