Here you can get an intimate view of some of the world's most famous art, from iconic contemporary and modern paintings to medieval masterpieces.  Experience the Institute’s vast collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings, the largest outside The Louvre in Paris. See masterpieces such as Seurat's "A Sunday Afternoon on La Grand Jatte," Renoir's "Two Sisters (on the Terrace)”, and numerous paintings by Claude Monet first-hand. In the “Modern Art” collection, see iconic pieces such as Matisse's “Bathers by a River”, Brâncusi's “Golden Bird”, Magritte's “Time Transfixed”, O'Keeffe's “Black Cross, New Mexico”, Orozco's “Zapata”, Ivan Albright's “Picture of Dorian Gray”, and Lachaise's “Woman (Elevation)”. The “American Art” collection will show you work by renowned artists such as John Singer Sargent, James McNeill Whistler, Mary Cassatt, and Winslow Homer, as well as iconic Modernist holdings from Georgia O'Keeffe to the Mexican muralist Diego Rivera. In the “Contemporary Art” section, you will see ground-breaking works by Willem de Kooning, Eva Hesse, Jasper Johns, Ellsworth Kelly, Joan Mitchell, Bruce Nauman, Jackson Pollock, Gerhard Richter, and Cy Twombly. Use your pass to the full and browse the Institute’s other collections, including “European Painting and Sculpture Collection”, “Asian Collection”, “African Collection”, and “Medieval Collections”. As you walk through the halls, admire the museum’s architecture by Pritzker Prize-winning Renzo Piano, complementing the museum's original 1893 building, which was built for the World's Columbian Exposition of the same year.

I was with my two boys (18 and 17) and husband. We were in town for the Celtics game (Basketball junkies). They were playing the Bulls that evening. My 18 year old son and I wanted to go to the Art Institute. We all went, the two a bit reluctant. We were all overjoyed and me overwhelmed by the permanent collection. There was something to see for everyone. Was so surprised because the boys are really into sports but we all thoroughly enjoy ourselves.

Great place to go.

I was totally blown away by the art work displayed. A number of paintings I used to teach my art classes st school how masters painted and let the students study them and try to copy to get the effects. To see them in real life was so mesmerizing . The miniatures” were an unexpected delight. That was impressive. Thank-you

Fast pass is the way to go!

I was in line to buy tickets when I saw fast pass as an option. So I bought the tickets on my phone. The passes came in multiple emails so it was a bit unnerving at first but it all worked out perfectly. I will only use fast pass in the future.
