What to Expect
Chiang Mai is one of the must-visit places in Thailand. Surrounded by green mountains and influenced by the charming Lanna way of life, this famous city is an ideal holiday destination for families seeking a relaxed back-to-nature holiday that offers an interesting and fun mix of activities.
Families can cycle together at a leisurely pace on this 5-day tour and experience a variety of northern activities, from riding on an ox cart, to visiting an organic farm, cooking their own dinner, kayaking on a lake, boiling eggs in a natural hot spring, and bathing with elephants!
After a short transfer you’ll head out on a ride outside Chiang Mai city. The cycling begins with a gentle ride on quiet back roads alongside rice paddy fields with a stunning mountainous backdrop. You’ll ride to Sri Lanna and finish at Mae Ngud Reservoir. Take off your bike helmet here and put on a life vest before launching your kayak for the next phase of the adventure. Spend the night at a resort on the banks of the Mae Ping River.
Start the day with a ride on an ox cart to Lisu village. From there you’ll continue on a leisurely ride in the countryside to Mae Joe Baan Din, a small organic farm that promotes sustainable living. Stay overnight in an adobe hut built with all natural materials.
Take an early ride through villages on small, hard-packed dirt trails that will lead you to an area of bright green paddy fields. Afterwards you’ll be transferred to the Buffalo Village where you’ll have the opportunity to learn all about rice farming, and take part in an interactive demonstration. Spend time in the evening with ethnic Lisu at Lisu Lodge.
You’ll have a day off the bike today and spend some time with Thailand's national animal, the elephant. At the Thai Elephant Home a mahout will teach you how to ride an elephant and give commands. Take your elephant to a natural mud spa and enjoy a shower together in the river before saying goodbye!
You’ll have a short transfer to Bor Sang umbrella village, where you can create a unique hand-painted umbrella. Then get back on your bike and start cycling along a smooth tarmac road through villages, and passing by schools, temples, and many fruit orchards. The ride ends at San Kamphaeng hot springs, where you can take a dip in the natural hot spring pools. Transfer back to Chiang Mai city.
