  • Boat Cruise to Balos Lagoon & Gramvousa from Kissamos Port

    1. Boat Cruise to Balos Lagoon & Gramvousa from Kissamos Port

The boat departs from Kissamos Port and sails for about an hour in the bay, against a stunning backdrop of steep cliffs and rocks, incredible secluded beaches and the infinite blue. Have the chance to see a large cave, which is thought to be an ancient shipyard. At the end of the bay, the boat will sail between Gramvousa Island and Cape Vouxa. The landscape is breathtaking against the backdrop of Valenti, Pontikonisi, Balos Lagoon and Imeri Gramvousa. The boat shall arrive at the small port of Gramvousa, where you shall stay for about 2 hours. The location of Gramvousa, the Cretan nature, the legends and the turbulent history of the area exude a magical aura. The landscape is spectacular and the beach is adorned by a lonely shipwreck. The highest point on the island, atop a steep rock, at an altitude of 137 meters, is dominated by the famous castle of Gramvousa. You may also swim in the...

The weather was a little windy however it wasn’t too hot and we enjoyed the boat trip and the lagoon. Water is crystal clear and you can find a piece of pink sand beach there as well.

Great adventure, but would recommend walking boots. Be very careful to obey rules on keeping to path and stop walking to admire flora and fauna and taking photos. Quite arduous if you are not used to walking in the heat of the day. But please don’t be put off just be very careful where you step.

  • From Rethymno/Chania: Imbros Gorge Hike

    7. From Rethymno/Chania: Imbros Gorge Hike

Discover the Imbros Gorge, which runs parallel to the more famous Samaria Gorge. Although the Imbros Gorge is smaller, many people prefer to cross here because it offers a very different hiking experience than the Samaria Gorge. Of the 11 kilometers, 8.5 kilometers are suitable for hiking. Discover the exquisite beauty of nature in this narrow passage and learn about the stunning rock formations.  According to legend, the name Imbros was given to the village, and subsequently the gorge, because two Greek brothers chose to live here after they were banished from Imbros Island when it was connected to Turkey. For many years, the Imbros Gorge served as part of the trail that connected the city of Chania to the Hora Sfakion village. It is notable that during World War II, after the Battle of Crete was lost by Greece and her allies, many thousands of British soldiers passed through the Imbro...

Everything was organised very well. We were picked up from near where we stayed and driven to the start of the gorge. Had to buy our own tickets. Make sure you have cash before you leave because the ticket office only accepts cash and there's no ATM anywhere there. Also make sure you have water because, unlike Samaria gorge, there is no water anywhere inside. You can wait at a tavern on the other side for your bus which will take you to the sea. We only had about an hour to get to the beach, swim, change and come back but it was enough. The bus then took us all home. Great experience!

Along the way, you’ll have spectacular views of Crete’s most beautiful mountain range, and you are also likely to see mountain goats roaming in the wild. You will be accompanied by a professional mountain escort who speaks English, German and Greek. Your escort will be there to explain all the necessary information about your hike and provide you with the tickets for the entrance and ferry. After your breakfast you will enter the Samaria Gorge, where you can walk at your own pace as your guide waits at the end of the group to help you out if you need them. At the end o...

You pay just for the guide + bus, the gorge entry & boat tickets need to be payed additionally in the bus (which btw had some problems that day and we had to switch to the other one). The experience in Samaria was excellent tho and would recommend it to anyone!

  • Santorini: Full-Day Tour from Crete

    9. Santorini: Full-Day Tour from Crete

Visit Santorini, the island neighboring Crete, and enjoy a short cruise in just 1 day. After pick-up from your hotel, head to the harbor and begin your 4-hour boat tour on the Cretan Sea. Upon arrival, see the white houses of Fira that lie high above the edge of the crater, and decide whether you would like to spend more time on this volcanic island. Wander the small town of Fira or visit the picturesque town of Oia. Enjoy the leisurely Greek lifestyle and visit a taverna or 2. Relax on the beach, enjoy the day by the sea, and simply leave your cares behind.

Well organized. I left from Rethymno. It would have been a better tour if the ferry trip had taken 2 hours in each direction and the extra 2 hours could behave been spent between Oia and Fira/Thira. That said, we got to see beautiful parts of Santorini and had some time to shop and sample Santorini cuisine. A very good tour.

  • Samaria Gorge: Day Trip from Agia Pelagia, Heraklion & Malia

    10. Samaria Gorge: Day Trip from Agia Pelagia, Heraklion & Malia

Enjoy breakfast at Rethymno, the first stop on this 17-hour Samaria Gorge excursion. Begin your trek at Xiloskalo, where you'll enter the vast, 18-kilometer canyon. Hike along a path that follows the route of the ancient Taras River. Admire the caves that formed a natural shelter for the Cretans in war times and now are home to wild goats. See the abandoned village of Samaria before reaching the Iron Gates, 3 kilometers before the end of the gorge. Rest and enjoy lunch (at your own expense) at the small fishing village of Agia Roumeli. Cool off with a refreshing swim in the Libyan Sea before boarding the ship that takes you back to the village of Sfakia.

Very long and very hot, exhausting day but so worth it to visit the gorge! Please be prepared with actual hiking shoes or you will not make it through the entire hike. Water is frequently available at rest areas on the journey. The gorge is worth it and beautiful!

What people are saying about Chania Regional Unit, Greece

Beautiful hike! Difficult for those who don’t have the best grip since it’s almost always downhill. However, after the first hour it is quite manageable (but long of course, took me 6 hours in total). Elena was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable, friendly and (which I loved!) she reminded people to wear a mask on the bus. The Tour was overall really well organized with minimized waiting times (except for the afternoon, where you get to spend time in the village by the sea, but this was quite nice and doesn’t count as waiting time). The bus driver also did a very nice job. Only minor criticism I have is the breakfast break (20 minutes) which seemed unnecessary. Nevertheless, I highly recommend to do this hike with this company!

I’m really going to have to agree with other reviewers and say this was a fantastic tour. The trip to Bali’s lagoon for pictures was fun and informative as Nasos kept us informed about Cretan history and the local area the whole way there. He was engaging and funny and we felt at ease with him immediately. If I could book our time in Crete again, I would look to Nasos and Chania Adventures to help plan our time, it was that enjoyable! Falassarna beach was incredible. The water was so clear and beautiful to swim in and we had a very relaxing time in our sun chairs and umbrellas. So glad we started our trip with Nasos and would definitely recommend his services as a guide and this tour!

Please stop looking for any other travel company in Chania. Here with Adventure you are treated like family not just a customer. The owner will go above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of completely in every way possible. His agenda is set up perfectly to ensure you are relaxed and every second is spent enjoying your trip from Chania to Balos to Falassarna Beach. Honestly there are not enough stars to rate this company. I am confident that all of his tours are top notch as I know the character of the owner. He will work hard to organize every detail and respect your time on your vacation so that it is as enjoyable as possible.

Really excellent. You're paying for the convience of everything being organised for you and they do just that. Coach picked us up from very near our airbnb and our tour gide Thomas was great, clear instructions on what to do when and a great charm as well.

The weather was a little windy however it wasn’t too hot and we enjoyed the boat trip and the lagoon. Water is crystal clear and you can find a piece of pink sand beach there as well.
