Discover the scenic beauty of southwest Mauritius on a private 9-hour tour, and visit some of the island’s most magnificent sights, including Chamarel Falls and Trou aux Cerfs. See a statue of Lord Shiva that's more than 100 feet tall, and more.
What to Expect
Explore southwest Mauritius with a private driver, and encounter untouched nature in all its beauty. Drive through small villages and nature reserves, marvel at high mountain peaks, and much more.
Your driver will take you to the Casela Nature and Leisure Park near Rempart Mountain. In addition to magnificent views, the park and animal sanctuary is home to 150 species of birds from 5 continents, including long-necked Pink Pigeon. You can also see boars, hares, macaque monkeys, mongoose, fruit bats, and tigers. There is a petting farm to get up-close to deer, cockatoos, and wild boars, and trails that meander past orchids, streams and fishponds.
Continue to Chamarel, stopping for views of Chamarel Falls en route to the geologically curious Seven Colored Earths. Created by volcanic activity, the different shades of red, brown, grey, and purple earth on the exposed hillside form beautiful patterns. Enjoy a delicious lunch at La Chamarel restaurant.
Then, drive through the Black River Gorges National Park, looking out for endangered plants and animals along the way. Stop for spectacular sights of Alexandra Waterfall, before going to the small village of Floreal in the Plaine Wilhems. Look inside local craft workshops, including a wool factory, model boat workshop, and diamond cutting workshop. This is the ideal time to purchase souvenirs, such as handmade watches, paintings, crafts and clothing, from the many boutiques and factory shops in the village.
Go to the secluded mountain lake of Grand Bassin (Ganga Talao) in the district of Savanne. Located in the crater of an extinct volcano, its considered a holy lake by Hindu Mauritians, and is home to a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and other gods, such as Hanuman and Lakshmi. See the impressive statue of Lord Shiva by the lake, the highest statue in Mauritius.
You will also go to the volcanic crater of Trou aux Cerfs. Formed millions of years ago, the area offers beautiful views of the town of Curepipe, and when the sky is clear it’s possible to see as far as the island of Reunion. From Trou aux Cerfs, continue to Curepipe and Mare aux Vacoas, site of the largest freshwater lake and reservoir in Mauritius. Soak up the alternative Alpine atmosphere of the casuarina and coniferous trees as you drive.
