What to Expect
Look for orangutans in the tropical rainforest of Kalimantan, and visit an orangutan rehabilitation center at Tanjung Putting Nature Reserve to get up-close to the endangered primates at feeding time.

Traveling by small, motorized boat, you will sail the small rivers that flow through the jungle. The reserve is covered by a complex mosaic of diverse lowland habitats, rainforest, mangrove swamps and lakes, offering shelter to a variety of fauna and flora. Home to a large population of several endangered primates, Tanjung Putting is foremost known for its orangutans, where serious efforts are being made to return them back to their natural environment.

Day 1:
Transfer from Pangkalanbun to the nearby town of Kumai to board a small motorized boat that will be your accommodation for 2 nights. The boat has a closed deck and open deck, as well as a simple toilet and mandi room.

A cook will join you to prepare delicious meals, after which you can fall asleep to the chatter of the forest. Mattresses and mosquito nets are provided, while thousands of stars will shine down on you. After heavy rainfall, you might even experience the phenomenon of millions of insects providing natural illuminations.

Day 2:
Visit Camp Leakey to watch orangutan feeding time. Established in 1971, the research facility has supported scientists and students in their efforts to learn more and help protect orangutan, proboscis monkey, gibbon and leaf-eating monkeys. You will then enjoy a soft adventure trek through the tropical rainforest, looking out for proboscis monkeys in the jungle canopy.

Day 3:
Today, you will have one last chance to explore the spider’s web of canals and rivers, or enjoy a walk through the tropical rainforest, before heading back to Pangkalanbun for your overnight accommodation in a simple but comfortable hotel.

Day 4:
Transfer to the airport at Pangkalanbun for your flight back to Banjarmasin or Semarang on Java.
