Top Tours & Activities in Cebu City
Cebu City in the Philippines is the country's oldest colonial city. It was in this province that Ferdinand Magellan landed on the Philippines. Even back then the city began to prosper from trade with China and while today it is a very modern and busy city, it still holds some of its old charm. Much of its history can still be found and easily explored with the help of a variety of guided tours.
An historic city tour of Cebu City can take you to all of its important old sites, either by horse drawn carriage or on foot, starting with Fort San Pedro. This fort was built in 1565 and used by the Spanish who had conquered the area to protect the city. Magellan's Cross is next on the tour. Magellan erected the cross here when he landed in 1521. A short walk from there is the Basilica St. Nino Church dedicated to the child Jesus.
A carriage takes you from the church to view some historic homes like Casa Gorordo that date to the Spanish colonial period in the 19th century. Casa Gorordo is a museum depicting the lifestyle of that period.
Other one-half day tours of Cebu City can take you to the Taoist Temple used by the local Chinese community as well as to the more modern and commercial sections of the city that contain lush parks, restaurants, and shopping.
What People Are Saying About Cebu City
I had a nice Toyota, a driver and a guide all to myself. Myself being the only guest, the tour did not take 4 hours. We covered all the spots in 3 hours, but I had leisurely walks at all the spots and learned a great deal about Cebu history, especially the Spanish influence. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to visit all the major historical spots in Cebu in half a day.
Thoroughly enjoyed my private tour led by Rosh, she really brought the tour to life and showed me some beautiful historical locations. She even took photographs for me so I could be in them. We had a lovely day together and I would highly recommend her tour. Our driver, Rydel, was also fantastic and very patient when I wanted to spend a little longer at certain locations.
