The wine farms of Stellenbosch are the closest to Cape Town, a 45-minute, scenic drive from the city center, and the first stop on the tour. Home to a variety of cellars, producing some of the country’s most acclaimed wines, Stellenbosch is also a university town – its oak-lined Dorp Street offers museums, and galleries as well as many student cafes and restaurants.
While in Franschhoek, visit the Huguenot Memorial Museum, reflecting the European cultural history, and influence of the region – the museum focuses on the origins of Huguenot Protestant history, and the background of Dutch emigration to South Africa.
