What to Expect
This 6-day tour of South Africa’s famous Garden Route will take you to Cape Aghulas, Cango Caves, Ostrich Farm and the Wild Range Park, as well as Featherbed and the Tsitsikamma Forest. You will get the chance to take the highest bungee jump in the world, go on forest walks, take a dolphin watching and whale watching tour, and enjoy a game drive in the Addo Elephant National Park.
The private tour can be taken in either direction, starting in Cape Town or Port Elizabeth. You will stay in comfortable 3 and 4-star hotels on a bed and breakfast basis. It provides a perfect opportunity to explore one of South Africa’s most beautiful regions, with plenty of opportunities to take adventure activities for active travelers.
Day 1: Cape Town - Swellendam
Depart Cape Town for Swellendam and follow the rugged coastline through numerous fishing villages to Hermanus, well known for offering the finest land-based whale watching in season from July through November. Your next stop is the southern most tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas, where the warm Indian and cold Atlantic oceans meet. You will visit the famous Cape Aghulas Lighthouse, swim in warm waters in Stuis Bay, and lunch in a fish restaurant. After a relaxed lunch, continue on to Swellendam for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Swellendam – Oudtshoorn
Leaving Swellendam, you will drive inland to visit the world famous Cango Caves. After taking a tour of this amazing natural wonder, visit an ostrich farm where those brave enough can try to ride the largest bird in the world!
Day 3: Oudtshoorn – Knysna
Returning to the coast via some lovely country roads, you will arrive in the picturesque seaside village of Knysna. There are numerous adventure activities available here as well as some interesting local crafts. Enjoy optional activities such as canoeing, abseiling, hiking or a lagoon cruise. Spend the night at Knysna enjoying the bohemian’s town’s lively atmosphere.
Day 4: Knysna
Today we will explore more of the Knysna region, visiting a nature reserve, such as Featherbed. Tour the Tsitsikamma Forest and see the famous Big Tree, Monkey Land and Snake Park. Enjoy optional activities such as bungee jumping and treetop tours.
Day 5: Knysna – Addo Elephant National Park (Eastern Cape)
Depart Knysna and head to Port Elizabeth, where you will visit the famous Addo Elephant National Park. Game driving in the Park allows for a good opportunity to take some wonderful photos of animals. Spend the night at accommodation close to the National Park.
Day 6: Port Elizabeth
After a morning game drive in Addo, depart the park and drive east along the sunshine coast towards Port Elizabeth to connect with your onward flight and the end of the tour.
If you start the tour in Port Elizabeth, the itinerary reverses.
