Travel back to the days of the Mayan Empire on a 9-hour tour of the seaside site of Tulum from the Riviera Maya. Explore the pyramids and historic buildings of the archaeological site, and enjoy a Caribbean atmosphere during lunch at a nearby beach.
What to Expect
Explore one of the most famous Mayan sites in Mexico with an expert guide on a full-day tour of Tulum, with round-trip transfers from the Riviera Maya.
Located approximately 1-hour south of Playa del Carmen, the Mayan ruins of the seaside city stand on a 12-meter cliff overlooking the blue waters of the Mexican Caribbean. They were at their height of influence between the 13th and 15th centuries.
The archaeological site is relatively small and can be seen in approximately 2 hours. Admire Tulum’s most impressive building at the Pyramid El Castillo, the main temple overlooking the sea. Learn more about when and why Tulum was built, and how it was discovered by the explorers John Lloyd Stephens and Frederick Catherwood in the 19th century.
Follow your guide around the sites main and minor monuments, such as the God of Winds Temple and the ruins of the Great Palace. Learn more about Mayan culture, and why the walled city of Tulum was built to face the dawn.
Then, after lunch on a nearby beach, where you can soak up the Caribbean atmosphere, spend the afternoon swimming and lazing in the sun, or visit a second attraction in the nearby area (to be decided).
