Join us on a guided adventure at the mystical Rio Secreto, one of the natural wonders of the Riviera Maya. Our guides will take you swimming and walking to explore the passageways and the geological formations of this subterranean nature reserve.
What to Expect
Your adventure begins when we pick you up from your hotel in Cancun and head off to Río Secreto, just a few miles from Playa del Carmen. This nature reserve comprises an amazing underground river complex featuring a labyrinth of passageways and thousands of dramatic stalactites and stalagmites. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped back into another geological age!
On this full-day tour you’ll ride in comfort in an air-conditioned van that passes through jungle on the way to the nature reserve. Once we arrive, your highly trained guide will tell you about Rio Secreto and what you can expect during this experience.
You’ll be given a complete set of equipment for the tour, including a wetsuit, wet shoes and a helmet with a special lamp. Once you’re suited up, we’ll head out to explore the system of caves, formed over many centuries by the waters of the underground Rio Secreto. This is the longest partially flooded cave system on the Yucatan Peninsula.
Your guide will then take you into a labyrinth of seemingly endless passageways formed over many millenia. You can walk and swim your way along an easy 600-meter route surrounded by thousands of calcified stalactites and stalagmites.
After finishing the tour, you’ll have lunch and time to relax in the lush surroundings of the reserve.
