Spend a day seeing the sights of the Bahariya Oasis on this day tour from Cairo. Stroll the oasis' villages and visit the Mummy Hall, Temple of Alexander, and enjoy panoramic sunset views of the groves of date palms and fruit trees.
What to Expect
El-Bahariya Oasis in Egypt's Western Desert, is made up of several villages and is about 360 km (225 miles) west of Cairo. Together with Qasr, el-Bawiti makes up the administrative center of the oasis, and villages Mandishah, el-Zabu, and Harrah are close by.
Enjoy an unforgettable day tour to Bahariya, where you can visit the Mummy Hall, Temple of Alexander, and Temple of Ain El Muftella. Stroll the old villages of the oasis, relaxing under date palms and fruit trees.
The mummies of Mummy Hall were discovered when a donkey belonging to antiquities guard on duty at the nearby Temple of Alexander got its foot caught in a hole. The donkey eventually freed itself but its owner, Abd El Maugud, notified the Antiquities authority and thus the first golden mummies were discovered.
You can also visit the Temple of Ain El Muftella, which was once the main water source of the old capital of the oasis. The Temple of Alexander was Alexander The Great's only temple in Egypt, and today you can wander the impressive ruins at the Bahariya Oasis.
After touring the village and shops, enjoy panoramic sunset views across the desert.
