Experience an authentic beauty treatment practiced by women all over Egypt at a traditional hammam. Get pampered as you enjoy a cultural experience in a relaxed, women-only environment.
What to Expect
Enjoy a unique cultural experience while in Cairo, at an authentic women-only hammam public bath.
The hammam steam bath is popular throughout North Africa, especially in Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia. They used to be the only place people could bathe and scrub, since private bathrooms in houses or apartments were a luxury few could afford.
There are fewer hammams today, since modern plumbing means people can bathe in their own homes. But taking a public bath is still very much a part of the culture in Egypt, as well as Tunisia and Morocco.
Getting a good scrub at a local hammam is a wonderful, eye-opening cultural experience. If you like your adventure on the indulgent side, and are curious about trying something very traditional in Egypt, this is the ideal tour.
First you will relax in a simple steam room. A therapist will come to cleanse your body with a loafer. You will then receive a body mask, before showering. Finally a therapist will adorn your body with henna.
It is a unique experience in a very simple place. Don't expect the luxury of a deluxe beauty salon, but prepare to be fascinated by the authentic atmosphere of a public bath that dates back more than 560 years.
