What to Expect
Uncover the mysteries and religious traditions of Ancient Egypt on a 7-hour tour of Cairo, visiting the miraculous Egyptian Museum, the Coptic churches, the Citadel of Saladin, and other historic sights.

Following a hotel pick-up, a private Egyptologist guide will take you to the Egyptian Museum, which displays a rare collection of 5,000 years of art, and is considered the largest and most precious collection of Egyptian art in the world.

Wander through galleries that contain more than 250,000 artifacts. Among the many highlights are the treasures of the child King Tutankhamen. The neo-classical museum building was designed by the French architect Marcel Dourgnon to house masterpieces from the pre-dynastic to the Pharaonic and Greco-Roman periods.

Proceed to the Mohamed Ali Alabaster Mosque, and the Citadel of Salah El Din, where you will learn more about Islamic Cairo. The Citadel was fortified by the Ayyubid ruler Salah El-Din (Saladin) between 1176 and 1183 CE, as protection against the Crusaders. A few years after defeating the Fatimid Caliphate, Saladin set out to build a wall that would surround both Cairo and Fustat.

Built on a promontory beneath the Muqattam Hills, a setting that made it difficult to attack, the efficacy of the Citadel's location is further demonstrated by the fact that it remained the heart of Egyptian government until the 19th-Century.

Continue to Old Cairo to see the remarkable Hanging Church, built into the walls of the Roman Fortress. You will also visit the Abu Serga Church of Coptic Cairo, believed to have been built on the spot where Joseph, Mary, and the infant Jesus Christ rested at the end of their journey into Egypt.

End your tour at the Ben Ezra Synagogue, located on the site where baby Moses was found. You will then be transferred back to your hotel in central Cairo.
