Best things to do in Cairo

You can't swing a hookah in Cairo without striking archeological treasure! "The City of a Thousand Minarets" boasts not only stunning Ottoman mosques, but ancient wonders and a clash of modern and traditional cultures. Here's what to see.

Pyramid of Djoser

Book a day trip to this stepped tomb built by the earliest known architect, Imhotep. The Pyramid of Djoser has survived over 4 millenia, though all that remains of the Pharoah Djoser is his left foot!

Egyptian Museum of Antiquities

The museum boasts the world's largest collection of Egyptian antiquities, including Tutankhamen's solid gold death mask. Expect strict security measures, but it's truly a must-see!

Al-Azhar Park

Finished in 2005, it's already hard to imagine how the site of the breathtaking Al-Azhar Park was once a mountain of garbage accumulated over five centuries!

Al-Azhar Mosque

For a tour of Cairo's religious life and history, there's no better place to start than at the city's oldest mosque. Al-Azhar Mosque was built in 970AD and it's also home to the world's first university!

Khan Al-Khalili

Khan Al-Khalili,Cairo's most prominent souk (market), is as old as the Egyptian capital itself, and its economic heart still beats with tourists and locals alike!

Mosque of Muhammad Ali

Crowning its citadel is Cairo's most prominent landmark. Not only is the stunning Mosque of Muhammad Ali one of the best places to visit, it offers greats views of the city too.

Giza Necropolis

Though home to two of Cairo's most famous icons – the Great Pyramids and Sphinx – the Necropolis' best attraction might actually be the fascinating ancient workers' village.

Amazing trip to the Pyramids with EMO tours

We really enjoyed out trip to the pyramids. Our guide Omar Mannaa from EMO tours picked us up from the hotel on time. Omar was very knowledgable about the history of Giza and ensured that we saw all of the important parts of the sight. My 8 year old son particularly enjoyed riding a camel and going inside one of the pyramids. It was really a great day.

Excellent trip to Alexandria and excellent guid

We booked an English guided tour to Alexandria from Cairo, the driver and the guid were at our hotel (JW Marriott ) sharp as stated in the ticket (07:00 am). We meet Mr.Ibrahim and his driver Mr.Hazim whom both were extremely very professional in carrying their duties and very informative answering every little and big questions from my 7 years old son who has fun with the trip. We visited 4 different sites in Alexandria including the great Alexandria library. What I really like about this tour the attention to the details both the company and the guid have put for us. For example, the lunch was in "the tikka palace" which was superb even for funny 7 years old kid. Mr. Ibrahim was very educative and delivered a lot of his knowledge to both of us in fun and exiting ways mad the whole visit very interesting and entertaining. I truly appreciated his safety consciousness towards kids and adults when it comes to broken steps on the way, lower

Fantastic insightful tour of mosques, along with a great market tour.

Our guide, Mohammed, was waiting for us in our hotel lobby some time before the departure time. He carefully explained to us what the day would hold, and then off we went. We started at The Citadel, and we found our visit to the spectacular Mohammed Ali Alabaster Mosque very special. Such a beautiful place, with a highly sacred atmosphere within. It was the first time in any mosque for the both of us, and we were delighted with the welcome in which we were received. We took many beautiful picture both outside and in, and we sat for about 15 minutes inside as Mohammed walked us through the history of the mosque and how the principals of Islam applied to it’s construction. Before leaving the Citadel, we also visited the 14th century Ahmed Ebn Tulun mosque which was again charming but on a much smaller scale. Onwards to visit the mosque of thanksgiving, the 11th century Bab Al-Futuh mosque, where we had the opportunity to go up into the minaret for some great views around Cairo. We al

Brilliant day out, taking in key sites with a great guide and experien

Our guide Ahmed Ettler and his driver were excellent from the start. Met on time, and driven and escorted everywhere with minimum of fuss. Ahmed was very knowledgable, starting our day out with a short yet adequate visit to Memphis, then on to the Step Pyramid and tombs at Sakkara, then a break for an good open buffet lunch (included in the price) in Giza, finishing with a spectacular tour of the Great Pyramids. Ahmed tactfully advised us how to carefully manage souvenir sellers and camel drivers at the various sites visited, without our causing offence. We would like to book this very courteous and helpful team again for more excursions whilst here, and highly recommend both guide and driver.
