Spend a leisurely day exploring Cooktown or take the Aboriginal Rock Art tour led by award-winning Aboriginal elder Willie Gordon. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Cooktown and its history.
Eat at authentic bush pubs and stay in deluxe accommodation. Because many of the details of this tour have already been provided for you such as accommodation, itinerary, and transportation, you can sit back, relax, and soak up the unique atmosphere of this part of the world.
After being collected at your hotel travel north along the Captain Cook Highway by air-conditioned 4-whell drive. Arrive at the World Heritage listed Daintree National Park and cross the Daintree River by cable ferry. Stop for morning tea at Heritage Lodge in Cape Tribulation.
Continue north and learn about the Bloomfield track. Stop for lunch at the Lion’s Den Hotel, one of Queensland’s oldest running bush pubs. Continue past Black Mountain and arrive in Cooktown, stopping to get great views from Grassy Hills.
Transfer to your chosen overnight accommodation in Cooktown.
Day 2 (L)
You will have free day to explore Cooktown at your leisure. In Cooktown visit the James Cook museum, or stroll along the shores if the Endeavor River.
In the afternoon depart Cooktown via the inland road, the Mulligan Highway. Travel through the Palmer River gold mine region in the outback of north Queensland.
Stop for dinner at the authentic Queenslander pub in the old mining town of Mount Carbine (at your own expense). Your tour comes to an end as you are taken to your accommodation in Cairns or Port Douglas.
