What to Expect
Depart Salta and journey towards the famous wine-growing region of Cafayate in the Valles Calchaquíes (Calchaquí Valley), 183 kilometers from the capital city. Take a scenic route past colorful rock formations of incredible shapes, recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Monument.
Start with a drive along National Route 68, traversing the Lerma Valley and its historic towns. Reach Quebrada de las Conchas ("Gorge of the Sea Shells"), where wind and water erosion has carved curious shapes in the rocks. Admire formations such as the "Amphitheater," "Castles," "Devil's Throat" and "Toad."
Continue to Cafayate to visit some of the Torrontes wineries the region is famous for. Learn about the special characteristics of the wine, due to the particularities of the climate and land. After lunch (own expense), return to Salta through the Quebrada de las Conchas and Lerma Valley.
